The point is we do have room for Kale, because he offers as much and fills needs better than Cook. Imo, better than Stauskas.
Whoah buddy. Cook was a dominant player at Hamilton HS. He played much better competition on a daily basis and took them to school. The difference between the talent of an Elgin Cook and Abrahamson is large. Cook at this point is only an inch shorter, but everything you see on Cook screams difference maker. You take Cook back before you get Abrahamson

cook was suspended, injured, and then quit the team. that = dominant?

There may be better players in the Milwaukee area but there are better teams in the CIML. I'd put the best HS teams in Iowa up against a lot of the best HS teams in other states. They may have better players but Iowa kids always play better basketball.

Based on what? I would take the top teams in the Milwaukee area over the top teams in Iowa any day. Large urban areas lend to good basketball, and the ISU staff has always said that Wisconsin is one of the most underrecruited states.

Did you see what he did when he was able to play? This comment is ********. A kid is injured and getting shot at. Not dominant enough I guess......

Cook looked good. However he played as a four in high school, and a lot of his offense was utilizing his superior length and athletic ability to get easy buckets down low. Can that be carried over to the Big 12 or can he (or already has) expand his game to the perimeter?

Cook would still be a good addition, especially if he play a different position in prep school. Given he has an offer, the coaches agree with you. I was suggesting Kale's skills fit a need better.

Did you happen to see what Ames did to the team from Chicago last season? Iowa BB is a lot better than some give it credit.

I'm not sure I have seen anything that would say Cook was dominant when he was playing. He is a good player but I have not seen anyone rank him in their top 100 list for his class at any point in his career.

Not much difference, if an, between being ranked 85 and 120. Plus, he would still be one of the highest ranked options for ISU.
With another year, he could explode in the rankings.

Iowa teams can travel now and tend to do quite well. I would take almost any bet that you could get on an Iowa team vs. other states. You'd get points andf you'd clean up.

You'd lose. Last year Ames pounded on the top team in Illinois.

ISU staff recruits players, not teams. If you are looking for players, than yes Milwaukee has more talent.

Cook is more physical than Kale will ever be and he has showed it. Kale is to slow to be a 3 in the big 12, and I can guarantee he would wind up being a player like JVB. Kale would be way better off playing in the Missouri Valley.

This site had him ranked 96 for 2011.

This is true but it also doesn't tell the story about talent.

The Iowa teams, for the most part, are playing team oriented while the "other states" are playing what appears to be Juco-ball on steriods.

You picked the best team to play in the state in decades and say that is representative? Way to cherry pick.

The Linn Marr team this year would have mopped up on that same Chicago team. I watched the Rock Island team win state this year in Illinois. They weren't any better than the teams here in Iowa. They had a player named Chasson Randle but that's it.

Other states have better players but in high school ball, there isn't a difference. Iowa teams do well in AAU when they travel.

C8, I'm curious if you have played or coached against Kale. You seem to be convinced he can't compete at the power conference level when several head coaches disagree with you.

You have stated twice he will turn into another JVB. Why is that such a bad thing? If we actually had a legit low post threat to compliment JVB he would have been a very effective Big XII player. For a guy who played most of the conference season with a bad foot he wasn't to bad anyway.

Every team needs a few role players. Can Kale play a role at this level I have no idea. But I'm not going to say he can't just because he is from Iowa or he doesn't have a bunch of impressive dunks on a highlight video.

Based on the extensive highlights from last season I've seen of Kale, he is nothing like JVB. Kale has very good ability to shoot off the dribble, which JVB could never do. If Kale is still able to do that well if he grows another inch or two, he will likely be a legit high-major prospect.
