So I've never really spent any time in Kansas City, outside of driving through it and the game at Arrowhead last year. We got a room at the Crown Plaza Hotel in P&L District for Friday and Saturday, and looking to have a hell of a good time, so I have some questions for KC folks, or someone familiar with the area.

-What are the top bars in P&L? I've heard there's a place with a beer selection that would make El Bait Shop blush. We're not really looking to go to any dance clubs or any crap like that.

-Arthur Bryant's or Gates and Sons BBQ. Which is better, or should we just go to both?

-What are the other good (and reasonably priced) restaurants in the area?

Looking forward to a hell of a weekend.

Didn't spend too much time at P&L while I was there, not my crowd, but out-of-towners love it. Flying Saucer has a great beer selection, but I still prefer the El Bait Shop atmoshpere. Arthur Bryants would take my vote over Gates. I highly recommend Oklahoma Joes.

Unlikely. I read an article not long ago that El Bait Shop has the world's largest selection of microbrews on tap. I don't know how official that claim is, but what could another bar have going in terms of beer that would give El Bait Shop anything to feel bad about?

The Flying Saucer in Houston had alot of beers from other countries, but why argue over 2 good bars, like 2 beautiful girls-just enjoy.

Not sure on how many brews Flying Saucer has but its a lot.
If you cant find something good there, you dont like beer.

As far as bars go :
PBR : country bar w/ mechanical bull. Pretty good time
McFaddens: sports bar, but not a whole lot of seating. Expect this place to be pretty crowded, it usually is.
Raglan Road : irish bar, pretty good time, a lot more relaxed then the other places
Angels Rock Bar : this place gets pretty wild, but its a also a good time.
Howl at moon : typical piano bar
Shark Bar: cool bar with nice outdoor patio area.
Tengo Sed : "mexican" bar, worth a stop if its not to busy

Obviously there more but those are probably the most popular.

I like Arthur Bryants more then Gates, but would choose OK. Joes before either.

Your hotel, is pretty nice, just a few minute walk to the main part of PL dist.
I'm pretty familiar with the whole downtown scene so let me know if you have other questions.
I'm sure you'll have a great time.

I'll be at AB's after the Cyclone Spirit event. See you there.

Oklahoma Joes Saturday or Sunday before we leave.

First off, for BBQ, Okie Joe's. Go with the z-man sandwich or the smokey joe on a bun with a side of fries. For Bryant's vs Gates, I'd say Gates. Order the burnt end on a bun. Burnt ends are pretty unique to KC style bbq I believe.

For other interesting restaurants, I've never been, but I have heard Stroud's is pretty good stuff. Homestyle pan fried chicken and stuff like that. Man vs Food did a Kansas City episode a few weeks ago and this is one of the places he hit up.

It looks like everybody covered the P&L pretty well so far. That place is a great time, you really can't go wrong.

Are any of these restaurants in the P&L district?

The list of P & L restaurants are found in the link posted by CYdTracked (the fifth post on this thread).

Okay, but my original question was: are any of the restaurants in P&L good? I don't recall eating there last year. Actually, I don't recall eating at all which would explain why I felt so crappy on Sunday:smile:
