Just a side topic. What are people's thoughts on DSM food scene vs. KC food scene? BBQ obviously aside.

I always go to places that have been on Travel Channel and Food Network shows. Here is a list of them for Kansas City. Pick the closest to your hotel or most interesting. I've never been steered wrong using this method for new cities. When I went down there last time, I went to Oklahoma Joe's BBQ. Was amazing.

Oklahoma Joe's name has been changed to Joe's Kansas City Bar-b-Que

They still have three locations.

We've enjoyed Brio, O'Dowds, and Fogo De Chao in the Plaza, and McCoy's Public House in Westport.

We are heading down for the tournament and looking for a place to have an anniversary dinner.

We have been to Lidia's a couple of years ago on a CF poster's recommendation and they did not disappoint.

So hoping CF can come through again. It doesn't have to be fancy just good food and a nice atmosphere.

My wife and I went down a few years ago and bought a Groupon for an amazing Italian restaurant called Cascone's. They had decent prices, amazing food, and it's a great place for an anniversary.

BBQ wise, Johnny's BBQ in Shawnee Mission. It was featured on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives once upon a time, and the burnt ends sandwich is to die for!

OK, we are recent transplant to KC, and like to eat out. A few more recommendations for good anniversary joints:

1) Novel. We've been 3 times since we've lived here, excellent every time. They take reservations through their website. Excellent drinks, the pork chop is giant, and my husband proclaimed the brussels sprouts the best in the world.

2) Piropos. It's Argentinian, they do steak and seafood. We've not been, but my in-laws who know food like it and go there for their anniversary every year.

3) Cleaver and Cork. In P&L, opened by the chef from the Local Pig, another great place in KC. Upside of Cleaver and Cork is that they also take reservations, even during the tournament. We haven't been yet, but the menu looks great.

Also, would second Garozzo's and Cascone's, though of those two, I would do Garozzo's. Grunauer's is pretty good; we went, and my husband loved the schnitzel. I didn't love my spaetzel (severly undersalted), but management was responsive to the problem, which I appreciated.

Haven't been yet, but plan on checking this place out soon: http://grunauerkc.com

its right between Jack Stack and Lidia's down by Union Station.

Agree with both of these. The bbq joint is very casual, but also very good. I recommend the burnt ends. Sometimes has live music too.

Grunauer is very good German food. Unique.

I loved the old JJs, and it has reopened. http://www.jjsrestaurantkc.com/ It is close to its old location, on the west side of the Plaza.

Westport Flea Market is a great place for dive burgers.

This is one of my favorite casual Mexican joints: http://www.rudystenampa.com/about.htm

I can also recommend http://www.pierponts.com/ for a special dinner. Classy joint, great food and drinks. $$$$

As for the other bbq in KC, my list is 1A. Arthur Bryant original for lunch. 1B. Any Oklahoma Joes, although original in gas station is best. Closed sundays still i believe. 3. Jack Stack for bourgeoisie bbq. Plaza location. 4.Danny Edwards on the Blvd. close to downtown. 5. bbs lawnside 6. LCs 7. http://www.rosedalebarbeque.com/index.php which is a great dive place. I have eaten at all of these many times and I can highly recommend them.

A wild card? This one: Roscoe's in Edwardsville. Sort of a haul, but if you visiting Cabela's may be worth a stop. Check out the reviews: https://www.google.com/search?clien...tbs=lf:1,lf_msr:-1,lf_pl:-1,lf_od:-1,lf_oh:-1
