I wonder how many of those on here hoping Kempt doesn't win his appeal were also angered by Park's loyalty turn quote. The kid gave us his all last year, led the team to its most successful season in years, and wants to come back again because he loves it so much. How the hell do you root against that? Good grief.
I don't think anyone here is rooting against the appeal. You can maybe debate his skills versus Noland as starter, but not having an experienced backup instead of having one is a braindead decision.

I agree 100%. Both QBs' passes fluttered going one direction and didn't flutter going the other direction. I'm no scientist, but I think that's pretty good evidence to prove the theory.
In addition our senior fair catch punt return guy stood absolutely flat footed and watched a punt drop about 5 yards away from him. I have little doubt that the wind was wreaking absolute havoc on that ball as it dropped and he was so confident that he couldn't get a good read on it that he thought it better to let it drop even if it meant that ISU set up inside the 5 yard line.

I may be misremembering, but I thought there were one or two posts here or in another thread that were hoping he didn't get it so that Campbell would bring in a grad transfer QB.

Could be. I remember posting a couple times that if Kempt didn't get a sixth year then I hoped they'd bring in a grad transfer, but that is definitely not the same thing.

Because the backup completed 55% of his passes and threw for 2 touchdowns and 1 pick against the 73 and 100th ranked defenses in the country in yards given up/game.

Noland might wind up being good. I sure hope so. But my goodness, thinking he's superior to Kempt based on what we've seen in crazy. Might wind up that way, but you can't say it definitively now.

Can the split time by wind direction? Kempt gets the ball with the wind at their back.

Zeb goes against the wind

From a pure football standpoint I’d love to have Kempt for another year. He is an older guy that can teach the young guys the game. I’d also love to have him as a backup in case Zeb gets hurt.

I worry about him getting it though with the fan base. People are not realistic about his actual abilities. He played about as well as you can expect him to this year. Maybe with the off-season he can work hard and improve a little bit but he is pretty much what he is. In order to build on and sustain the amazing success from this year we need improved quarterback play specifically.

We can absolutely be thrilled with the results he brought us while recognizing the defense and receivers really were the difference this past year. We really have people saying he is the second best Qb in the Big 12 or he has a real chance in the NFL. That just isn’t realistic.

I don't think anyone is arguing Kempt carried the team. It's clear the coaches thought Kempt gave us a better chance to win than Zeb. Would that still be the case next year? Nobody knows yet.

Park, Kempt and Zeb all had mixed results like the offense in general. Taking the strength of the opposing D into account the offense had success and struggles with each QB.

Nobody is saying they don't want kempt back on the team! We are arguing who we want on the field. This is either terrible arguing or next level arguing.

Now back to the original topic of this thread

What’s the word on Kempt’s sixth year of eligibility?

Hopefully. I was sitting up pretty high, and while it was definitely windy, it wasn't like being in Jack in November.
The winds at the Liberty Bowl seemed to swirl a lot due to the shape of the stands and the fact that the stadium faces northwest.

I think most people who are arguing that Zeb will/might start next year are simply counting on improvement from him. It would be Kempt's sixth year, I don't think it's likely that he would improve a whole lot in the offseason. However, it would be Zeb's first full spring without an injury. I think it's reasonable to expect some improvement on his accuracy and overall handle of the offense. If that happens, he should and will be competing with Kempt for the starting spot.

I still can't believe it's much of a possibility, but if we get Kempt back, that's a great thing. I'm sure he'd have the leg up on the starting job, but one of the very clear things from Campbell & staff is that everyone competes for their job every week, let alone every year. So, while Kempt would presumably slot in at 1st string, Zeb would get the chance to beat him out, just like every other spot on the team.

Zeb has a much higher upside but being so inexperienced has had a lower floor. Remember, he missed his frosh year due to ACL injury, so he'll have a lot of growth this spring/offseason. Whomever starts, it'll be a good thing, and we'll have an excellent back-up.
