I would move IB into a tie with Kane and above Royce and Shayok for our best transfer.

He’s the best clutch scorer of any transfer, probably best clutch scorer of any Cyclone since Niang. On top of that our best rebounder and one of the best rebounders in Big 12.
Interesting ranking. I would still give it to Royce. I think enough time has passed that people truly forget what type of talent he was. For a program like ours and most college programs, he was a once in a generation talent. I give him the nod simply for what he did in that Kentucky game in nearly pulling off a MASSIVE upset where he outplayed Anthony Davis. That game even in a loss cemented it for me because that night he was the best player on the court even though Davis was hands down the best player in the nation.

And the game before that he clowned Andre Drummond.

It’s close. IB is better clutch scorer, they’re both best rebounder on team. Royce better facilitator but he was asked to do that because there wasn’t a true pg on roster. Both teams will have similar ncaa seed and no chance at NCAA without them. Kane and Shayok teams could have won without them but not sure that matters. There were stretches of Kanye’s season I thought he was best player in big 12.

I’m giving IB the ball down 2 with 20 seconds left over any transfer. Probably only Niang better finisher/closer among all players in my 25 years of fandom. Tinsley/Monte were great pgs but I’m talking about just trusting a guy to get a bucket. I barely saw Grayer but seems he was that too. Fizer definitely in discussion, and at least was likely to draw foul.

I was at that game in person, and I remember being absolutely underwhelmed by Drummond. I know he's gone on to have a pretty nice career in the NBA, but I could not have been less impressed by him in that game.

Forget Royce White. Bubu F*ckin' Palo had a better line in the box score of that game than Drummond did.

Oh 100% if I need someone to take the last shot between all of the guys we are talking about I am likely going with Brockington. For me the decider will be the NCAA Tournament. Like I said, even in a loss that Kentucky game for Royce was so damn good, and his 1st Round was great as well. I typically judge on the biggest stage, so let's see what Brockington can do. Hope he does pass Royce in my mind because that means we are likely in the Sweet 16.

For everything Kane did, especially that game winner against UNC, he gets hit hard for me (just my opinion anyway) with that Sweet 16 game against UConn. Did not play well and the free throw shooting absolutely killed us in that game.

I think he’s more polished than Monte Morris was when he was a Freshman. He’s incredible!

Its a super easy comparison for us to look at, Monte & Hunter. Not sure I'd say more polished, but maybe more all-around diverse skillset than Monte as a freshman.

There are some real differences though. Monte got eased into playing time, behind Kane, where Hunter has been under the spotlight and needed from day 1 - much more thrown into the fire. Hunter is more of a scorer (has to be), not as good a handle (in fairness NO ONE took care of the ball better than Monte), and has better size. Both have ridiculous bball IQ and that quiet leadership and confidence.

We have been spoiled rotten for point guards at ISU for quite a while. Tinsley, Garrett, Blaylock, Monte, Halli, even Jacy Holloway for crying out loud. I am probably forgetting someone. Kane! Good lord. Spoiled rotten!

HEAVY SARCASM. But what. a. *******. win.

I've given Gabe a LOT of flack this season but he played incredible.

IB is just insane.

WE ARE DANCING. PERIOD.

What a win is right. Regardless of Hilton, hard-nosed players, sprinkles of optimism and confidence, IB's big night......there was no way I thought we would win that game. Why? Foul line/rebounding. The cat with the career high...we had nobody that could keep him from the basket at 6-7". And we kept putting him on the line. Our 4 & 5 spots are really overmatched most games. Nothing that hasn't been already said, but boy do we need an upgrade in talent there. Bench points WV-44, ISU-8. Ouch. Even if (or should I say 'when') we get to the big dance, if we get a matchup like this and are a one and done, I don't care. The main thing is we get there. The rest will be icing on an unexpected season by a collection of gritty guys. Helps program's recruiting etc.
Savoring this win... regardless of WV's season.

I did a pretty in depth stat analysis vs MM’s freshman year in the Tyrese Hunter appreciation thread. I figured Monte would be clear cut better #s but it’s really a coin toss with different strengths and weaknesses. I focused on per minute, per possession and advanced since the style of play is so different between the two teams.

Minutes per game surprisingly not that different.
