I have a co-worker who lost a son. I always thought her a little flighty and not very strong, but then at the funeral I saw her buckle up and talk to the whole congregation at length about her 3 year old son who had to battle his entire short life. I, to this day, don't know how she was able to hold it together when half of the congregation was in tears before her. I gained a lot of respect for her at that moment.
