Now that Ken is gone, there's literally no reason to listen to local sports talk on 1460 anymore.

Geesh, she's been doing sports radio for two days. Give her a chance to refine her craft before you write her off.

Just an observation/pet-peeve, Mr. Burnside. I didn't threaten her well being.

I think Ken makes his "living" on whatever he does with sports betting in Vegas. I'm sure the income from sports talk radio is nice, but he doesn't seem like the kind of guy who's going to do a show he doesn't enjoy.

Whether or not his departure had anything to do with Heather, she should have been on the radio today. Address Ken's departure up front and then move on.

yes, I kinda like those things. Good filler for my day at work.

No judgement here. To each their own. I just don't care for them. Personally I'm bummed Miller has to join up with that tool Tirrell, so if I want to hear Miller I have to hear Toolbag McGee.

KRNT has been around for years. That was the radio affiliate for the Chicago Cubs as long as I can remember. Otherwise it was adult listening/oldies.

Wonder if losing the WGN radio contract with the Cubs - moving over to CBS is part of this. That had to be one of their better advertising/revenue streams.

Not a bad signal - not great.

I worked for the Des Moines Radio Group for a number of years. I wonder if they're bumping up the signal for KRNT. Would go in and out in Ames. I'm not sure how Marty's head is going to fit in that small studio.

another rant coming here...

I gave Joe a listen, knowing that he had previously worked at KXNO... 590 in Omaha usually goes out of its way in promos to not mention ISU... they talk Huskers 95% of the time and Iowa-Creighton the other 5%. Ironically I see that they had CW on today on 590..

Anyways I could see Joe wanting to leave 590 if he is sick of stroking husker fan's ego's....

I haven't listened to that show very much, but I believe the Iowa and Creighton talk is significantly higher than 5%, especially for Iowa. They do carry the Hawk games on 590, and I think they position themselves against 1620 which is close to 95% Huskers.

Oh for **** sake, Downs is as fair of a person you can find for a hawkeye fan when it comes to the Cyclones

Ehh...he's fair when it benefits him. Much like Jon Miller the disdain comes out when he feels that they are getting too much attention. I don't like listening to him on the radio. But I'm guessing he'll get the job.

Haven't listened to KXNO since they moved Jay Mohr to evenings.

It wasn't a KXNO decision, Fox Sports Radio moved Jay Mohr's entire show to Murph & Andy's current time slot, and there's no way KXNO was going to take them off the air in favor of a national show with lower ratings.

Yes, they are not good. Unless you like tired jokes and pointless non-sports related observations of everyday life.

To each his own, but I cannot stand most sports talk radio because in this market (and essentially every other market) there is no one who really knows a lot about sports. Most are just reasonably talented radio personalities who like sports, but don't know a lot more about sports than the more avid fans in their audience. Even the commentators who actually know something about sports like those on ESPN and Fox are largely forced to dumb-it-down to appeal to a broader audience. Personally, I would rather they either don't pretend to be experts and do an entertaining show or have someone who is technically astute and break it down at a higher level.

Haven't read the rest of the thread, but they didn't post the second hour of the Murph & Andy show from today when they were apparently talking about it. Lame.
