I think ESPN is contractually bound to talk about SEC football 10% of every collegiate sports broadcast.

Yes, much like in the state of Iowa, where it’s state law requiring there has to be one Casey’s every three square blocks.

Non-SEC ESPN broadcasts are beginning to look like this:
Boog Schiambi- “What a basketball venue, this crowd in Ames is incredible.”

Random color guy- “Almost, but not quite like an SEC football game.”

Schiambi- “Ward puts back the rebound for two, he’s got 10 here in the early going. Yes but all the rankings are actually warranted in this league.”

Random color guy- “Speaking of rankings, do you think Kalen DeBoer will have Alabama in the top 10 to start the year?”

Schiambi- “I quit.” (Takes off headset and walks off)

The announcers got the names wrong a few times, but that's understandable considering they haven't done an Iowa State game. Other than that it was top notch. The CBS music going to commercial gave me Marsh Madness feels.

2. Tre King really deserved more love for the game he had. Really was the reason we built the lead
3. Gilbert created a lot of offense when nothing else was going

Just rewatching it this morning, and a few things stand out

1. Hason Ward was EVERYWHERE blocking shots and tipping passes
2. Tre King really deserved more love for the game he had. Really was the reason we built the lead
3. Gilbert created a lot of offense when nothing else was going

Gilbert reminds me a bit of Holmes last year. He is often a bit out of control and playing too fast.

BUT... if everything breaks down and the defense is winning and someone just needs to get a shot up somehow, he is the Master Chef of making chicken salad out of chicken ****.

Just rewatching it this morning, and a few things stand out

1. Hason Ward was EVERYWHERE blocking shots and tipping passes
2. Tre King really deserved more love for the game he had. Really was the reason we built the lead
3. Gilbert created a lot of offense when nothing else was going

I wish I had recorded it (massive fail on my part).

Tre was either terrible or amazing. Down low he was awful when he got the ball. He was trying to out BRE the 2023 version by forcing shots, forcing moves, or not knowing when to kick it out every time he got it down low. On the outside he couldn't have been better, not just making 3s, but taking good shots (in rhythm...no hesitation). More importantly he kept shooting even when he missed a few. He's a better 3 point shooter than his stats show. The problem is he has (often) made open 3s, followed up (and missed) with a bad shot, then quit shooting altogether. He kept shooting which really won us the game.

He also has a tendency to poorly block out and mistime his jumps. Saturday he did both extremely well and the stats followed suit. It was a bizarrely amazing game.
