I learned earlier today that Kum & Go gas stations are owned by a huge Iowa Squakeye booster. A) Why haven't I heard of this previously? and B) Do any of you do business there??

I'm thinking about boycotting them. Maybe I'm over thinking things? LOL.

K&G, Kum and Go, is owned by Krause and Gentile, Inc., hence the name. I know Bill Krause is a big Iowa booster, still I see some promotions for the Cyclones from time to time at K&G.

our biggest one-time donor is an Iowa grad. $5MM. boycott him too while you're at it.

That is the most embarassing names in all of business. I was back in Ankeny about 3 weeks ago and it still makes me laugh.

I don't go to Kum & Go because I'm boycotting them. I just go on down the street to QT because it's just a better gas station/store.

I've known the Krauses donate large amounts to U of I for a while and always have support Kum & Go. The Krauses are good people and Kum & Go is a good locally-owned business. It doesn't bother me in the least that some of my money may find its way into the hands of the University of Iowa somewhere down the road. Then again, I don't hate Iowa as much as some ISU fans do.

This isn't a very good correlation, but by living in Iowa and paying taxes - anything you purchase here will help the U of I (yeah, yeah it helps ISU too, and where you buy gas is your own prerogative unlike paying taxes.) I'm just saying if you live in Iowa, you can't run away from supporting U of I, at least financially.

IMO, if you already use a business and are happy with it, thinking about not using it just because its owner supports your local rival school and sports teams is a bit ridiculous.

Plus, using K&G is still better than supporting BP.

On the road...
A very large donor's brother is a high up person at Kum&Go. He too is a rather large donor himself. He actually sits court side at Men's bball games and is very, very boisterous and passionate.

Very short sighted. Krause does a lot for the State of Iowa and endowed the Krause Challenge which ISU won this year.

Eep! I believe Krause & Co. have suite(s) at Jack Trice. I believe he attended Iowa but is a heavy hitter (donor) at ISU as well. It makes good business sense for him to spread his money around and I believe he does. He is not a tavern hawk - he's a businessman.

P.S. the second coolest Iowa State hat I ever bought I got at K&G years ago. It was a swirly butt Cy embroidered on a split cloth adjustable cap for 15 bucks. Last time I checked QT (Tuesday) all they had were Hawkeye hats. I prefer to think that they didn't have any 'Clone hats was because they were sold out... but I know better.

I can't speak for hat sales for either place. But if Kum & Go ever got a coffee or fountain drink set up like QT has, I would stop there more often.

A Cyclone fan patronizing Kum & Go is not as if a Cyclone fan is patronizing the Front Row.

I buy my gas exclusively from BP stations. And no it is not sarcasm.

Kyle Krause is not a very good guy. I happen to know him (and his family), as well as numerous employees of Kum & Go and Amici, their coffee shop.

Also, from an employee of K&G, the company buys BP gas for their pumps, at least in DSM. Locally, central Iowa only has like 2 gas supplies? I don't know if this is completely right or not, just what I've heard, but one of them is definitely BP.

I'll just stick to supporting QT, which is the best convenience store chain out there. If you don't happen to live in DSM or KC (or another city with QT), I feel bad that you can't experience it.

I think that QT's are better, but I don't have one on my daily commute (Beaverdale to Ingersoll). However, there are 2 Kum and Go's in that stretch.

The Krauses might be Hawk fans, but I think that K&G also gives money to ISU, and the company doesn't publicly promote the Hawks over the Clones. I have no problem doing business there. As someone else said, it's not like it's the Front Row.

"Maybe I'm over thinking things?"

I highly doubt that would be possible.
