Really surprised at how many people are surprised that we got whooped in Norman. Duh.

As for Lanning, he wasn't great by any means, but our receivers did him no favors. I counted 3 dropped passes that would have resulted in first downs and 1 dropped TD.

The last 10 meetings in Norman (last night notwithstanding) netted ISU 28 points. For those that aren't very good at math, that's less than a FG a game. We've been horribly bad in Norman for some reason.

Everyone has a lot to learn, but I do not fault Lanning. Coaching. Do not make him a pocket passer. When he is out of the pocket he has great touch. He doesnt aim, he plays. They keep him in the pocket WAY too much. Also give him a run throw option, hes great at that. period. Repeat that process over and over.

1. get rid of him throwing 75% of his throws inside the tackles
2. let him run more on scrambles.. make sure he knows this is okay.

I like the poise that Lanning showed. I never sensed that he seemed in over his head. When we made the switch to Lanning, we knew that he was not your Tom Brady type of QB. His skill set is more like Cam Newton. OU was very athletic on defense. Mike Warren couldn't get going. The lack of a running game and the score Saturday forced us to drop Lanning back more than we would like. He made some poor passes, but that is to be expected at this point in his career. He will get better. I thought he made some great throws too at key times. Unfortunately we had several key drops. Some of that may be getting used to a harder thrown ball, I dont know, but they were good throws at key times. I like our young talent. I think they have great leadership skills. A loss at OU is not unexpected, so it shouldnt change our ability to still win some games.

Joels mistakes are fixable, he's throwing to the right guys, he just rushes his throws sometimes and they aren't accurate. That's simply mechanics, much easier to fix than a guy who is lost or in over his head. He is making the right reads, in time the game will slow down and he'll hit those guys. Excited about Lanning, Warren and Lazard going forward.

Lanning apparently lacks the ability to put touch on his passes. Seems like he makes the throws he has to put some arm into. Also needs to get in tune with his receivers. If he has just a little better ball placement he has a great game.

That's the optimistic part. Those things can be learned. Now of the receivers would catch the ball..and the oc would actually call plays that use outr good receivers.

I agree especially with the part about using our good receivers. Why on earth Trever Ryen gets more plays than Dondre, Jauan, D'Vario, even Carson is beyond maddening. A guy who until recently was a walk on, didn't even play football for 2-3 years, and is built like a twig, should not be getting looks over guys that were 2,3, and 4 star recruits. Nothing against Trever, he's s nice player in limited roles, but should not be a focal point of the offense.

When the game was still in doubt jumping offsides, dropping passes and the line getting pushed backwards were all bigger concerns to me than Lanning's play.

If I had to criticize him it would be that true to the OP in a few situations he laser beamed a pass that should have had some touch and he should have ran a little more because when he did run it went well.

Year in and year out Oklahoma is as physical a defense as you'll see, the fact that the kid measures up physically and delivered some blows is a great sign. Ditto for Lazard looking like he outmatched their secondary. Warren has done great and I think will do great things for us but you saw that the physicality of their defense was a problem for him and obviously a problem for our entire line.

Oklahoma's D was too big and physical for Ryen, Warren and much of our O line yesterday. That's not to say they can't do great things with the rest of the schedule but it just wasn't happening.

Guys like Lanning, Lazard, Montgomery and to some extend Thomas at least match up physically with a team like OU. I see Warren becoming "the man" in our offense as he has earned it, but hopefully we have Lanning and a back like Thomas ready to get a ton of carries when we run into a defense like that, it's not like Warren is ever going to be a huge physical player even though he runs hard.

the oline played as sloppy as they have all year. Way too many penalties. The crazy part , we played pretty bad in the first half as a whole but were still in the game.

Oklahoma has had their way with everyone except in their loss to Texas. Good chance Oklahoma could win out.

And the thing is, Texas can match up with them physically and probably used the rivalry setting to pull out an inspired game. Texas isn't better coached than ISU right now, but Oklahoma is and they also have drastically better athletes than us especially on the lines. Look at Lazard, he's an OU level player and had no problem beating OU players. It's not that Lazard is being coached better than other players on our team, he just matches up. Same with Lanning and Thomas being able to run the ball better than Warren yesterday, they're not getting coached better than Warren, they were simply able to combat the onslaught of OU defenders a little better because of their size.

True, and I know Lanning throws the ball harder than Sam, but these are d-1 receivers that shouldn't be dropping this many passes. Considering our o-line and run game was getting crushed, I thought Lanning played pretty well. I wasnt' surprised that we got beat, but I was disappointed especially in the defense as I thought we had turned the corner a little and would be more competitive.

They will have their chance to prove how good they are as the meat of their schedule is coming up.

I disagree that Thomas and Lanning were not more successful than Warren because they were more physical. Warren had zero chance. OU was absolutely going to not let him get yards and run blitzed on every down in was in there. Thomas had a couple nice runs where he go down field 4-5 yards before anyone touched him. He wasn't running faster, harder or better. He just didn't have 7 guys gunning for him. The biggest mistake the coaches made was not running Lanning a lot more, and rolling him out more to counter the determination to stop Warren.

Everybody at ISU has a lot to learn. Learning should be a lifetime skill. If you are not learning, you are dying. Women should be paid the same as men FOR DOING THE SAME JOB!!! Strong women are not welcome at the UI Athletic Department. Life should be fair. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Those extra weeks of practice before the Liberty Bowl really helped the program. A stitch in time saves nine. Seth Rogan makes drug jokes.

Hillary, is that you? You wrote the intro for the "Captain Obvious" book didn't you?
