The Bolt as defensive coordinator experiment was an unquantifiable disaster.
Oh, it was quantified alright. 5 wins in 2 years and some of the worst defense imaginable. But our offense did nothing to help the defense. Nothing.
The Bolt as defensive coordinator experiment was an unquantifiable disaster.
You bring up an interesting point....
1st of all I do NOT blame Jamie Pollard for McDermott's lack of success...It just did NOT work out!
2nd Jamie got a basketball facility built so that gmac could recruit and RETAIN better players than what Wayne Morgan had recruited...GMac just couldNOT- canNOT recruit big 12 caliber players to Ames!!
3rd The fans have to let Jamie Pollard hire the next coach because thats Jamie's freaking job!
4th In my opinion the absolute worst thing that Jamie Pollard could do right now is ...simply do nothing and let gmac come back next year, because if Jamie loses the fan base they're not coming back to Hilton for a long long time...
The heat is on and its time for Jamie to respond with a new plan and a new coach for basketball success at ISU!!!
For some reason this sounds familiar......hummmmm
Good Luck getting rid of Pollard.
He just hired the Best Football Coach in America and I just joined the Cardinal Club. Who cares about MBB, I don't and I don't go to any of the MBB games. I admire the fans that do, I think ISU has the best MBB fans in the country and GMac has been a HUGE disappointment, but you can't blame Pollard.
I can see that, I just didn't understand the OP claiming a victory for Pollard based on our wrestling team, women's basketball team and going to a bowl game. Those aren't unprecidented occurences here. I am behind Pollard, don't get me wrong, I was just playing devil's advocate (aka trying to duplicate a MontyBurns) argument just for the sake of making an argument.

So wait, you cant support him and be dissapointed with some choices? Its not a clear cut line. I wouldnt group folks. Whether you like like it or not, you dont have any say in Jamie's fate. He has done alot of good and some things that folks dont agree with. Its the nature of the job and by bet is almost every AD that has ever existed has followed the same path.
To those who say that having contract clauses for potential minor violations:
Perhaps the program was expecting to have violations pop up in the short term future. Violations look bad for the coach and are a detriment to the team and the program. If a coach is aware that the hammer is about to come down in terms of punishments for violations, why would he want to coach here while it all come down on his head while not being able to reap the "success" from the violations? Perhaps those types of incentives were the only way to even get a DI coach to look at the position.
I do think fans should can it on the Chizik thing as far as putting blame on Pollard. Everyone loved the hire, looked great.
No one anticipated...
- Gene would make poor assistant coach decisions (although I think this should be part of the interview)
- Gene wouldn't be able to manage games
- Gene was selling us a bowl full of lies wanting to be here
- Gene would be so crass with the players and not be able to consistently motivate
How can you possibly not blame Pollard for Greg Mcdermott.
Just the facts here. JP:
1. Fired Wayne Morgan (a fairly successful coach in his 3 seasons, but definitely no Bill Self)
2. Hired Greg in 2 days
3. Gave him a 9-yr contract
I like JP overall but he definitely screwed the pooch with our MBB program.
We aren't in a good place right now for MBB no matter what we decide to do, and I don't envy Pollard's position on this one at all.
So what? In what other place do we judge by anything other than the results?
Before this season we loved this team, looked great.
No one anticipated...
- Brackins would have a terrible year
- The injury to JVB
- Lucca leaving
- Christopherson getting sick, etc.
How is this situation different than the hiring of Chizik? I judge on results, not how things look at some preliminary stage.
Agree. I am a JP fan, but some of these "accomplishments" credited to JP are waaaaay overstated. WBB and VB are successful primarily because of our great coaches and JP had nothing to do with that.
And people act as if we never had facility improvements. But the IPF for FB is a great facility.
JP is doing a good job, but his performance needs to be kept in perspective. His hiring of Chiz, Cael and GM have been roundly unsuccessful. GMac contract was flat out moronic. JP's attitude and ability to increase NCC has been commendable. No way he should be in the discussion on getting canned.
I've been in agreement with just about everything Pollard has done except for the Gmac contract extension. That made absolutely no sense.
