He's talking about skillset. Lazard could be very good but Calvin Johnson is perhaps the most freakish player in the NFL and that's saying something.

Yeah I understand that. I just interpreted the question as who is he comparable out of high school talent and recruiting wise. AJ Green was the #9 overall player in his class. Calvin Johnson wasn't known as the freak he was out of high school otherwise there wouldn't have been 36 people ahead of him and 2 other WRs.

"How big of a talent is Lazard. Is he on the same level that AJ Green was as a senior in high school?"

I don't know how big of a talent he is and I don't follow recruiting, but I do look at all the videos of our signees on signing day. And I usually go away wondering how coaches determine if a player is good because nothing looks that impressive to my untrained eye. But I watched the video of Lazard from last year's season. And I came away super impressed. Scary good.

I'm not saying he's not any good, but did he make much of an impact last year? I remember hearing how much of a beast he is at WR during the recruiting process but don't recall hearing his name much during the season.

A. Missouri sucked.
B. As I recall, Green-Beckham was either suspended or injured for several games.
C. He still managed 28 catches for 395 yards and 5 TD's...

And now I have to go and look up who Alshon Jeffery is. So much for my cardinal-colored glasses...

For him to have those stats at Urbandale is amazing. They are a run orientated football team but with some really sneaky pass plays. Put him in there and they are a very tough team to handle. Having watched many of their games last year he was a man amongst boys. This and when he was a sophomore he had 3 INTs for TD in one quarter. He is one special person and player. I can't wait to see him in the Cardinal and Gold.

This. They averaged 45 run plays per game with 14 pass attempts per game last season.

In all seriousness, Alshon Jeffery would be a better comparison than Calvin Johnson. Lazard is elite in every aspect of the position except speed. If he can develop just good speed he will be a force regardless of who is throwing him the ball. If his speed doesn't improve much he is going to be another Keenan Davis: the size and ability is there but can't consistently get separation from defensive backs.

I think people may be misinterpreting the speed comments. No one has called him slow, just that he doesn't posses elite top end speed. He has good speed, watching him blow up the corner's 10 yard cushion in the video in a heart beat is all you need to know that. You don't just become #1 being a slow dude with good hands and jumping ability.

I don't think he was anything special, but he will be a beast by the time he graduates

Hoping for a decent QB and pass protection. If we can't slow the pass rush we've seen in recent years, a good QB - WR combo can be a waste.

The most impressive game I have witnessed from him was last year versus Dowling where he drew multiple defensive pass interference calls and still caught the ball in the process. Dowling came out in the 2nd half triple teaming him. CB in his face, nickle back stacked behind him and a safety over the top.

My favorite play in the video was where he came back for an underthrown ball and maneuvered himself underneath the DB to make the catch. In addition to his great moves, speed, and size, he also knows how to position himself and make a catch in traffic, even when the ball is thrown badly. Very, very nice.
