I have moved around a lot since leaving Ames, and I always wanted to move back to the area until I landed in Wisconsin. People are just about as great as Iowans, the nature/outdoors is amazing here, the culture is better(music/food/entertainment/festivals), and I am within a hour drive of three amazing cities - Chicago, Milwaukee, and Madison. Not to mention, if you like to travel or do so for biz, I have 3 large airports to choose from, so direct flights only!

I think its valuable to get out and see the world and not have tunnel-vision from a singular perspective on life. I often go back to Iowa and see my family/friends in Iowa that stayed, and now I think there is no way I could live there again. The only thing I really miss is not going to athletic games, but I can still make it to a few a year.

Iowans burst into flames when they leave the state. Or so I've heard.

I'll be graduating college in a couple years, and I'm wondering what its actually like to say goodbye to this state. I've done my fair share of bashing about Iowa, but I imagine its gonna be sad. I was born in Philly but my dad is from Nevada, IA and my mom is from Ames and we have lived in Mason City for 17 years. Any thoughts?

Lived in Kansas for two years, back to Britt IA in 1994. There is something about Iowa that is just very very cool.

Good luck in your future.

I always thought it would be cool to live in Colorado but I think that it would actually ruin the state for me. When you're around it all the time I don't think you appreciate it as much. The same can probably be said for Vegas.

Well, I only went to college in Iowa for four years, but that was enough time to get to know the state decently well. I don't miss Iowa one bit except for things that most big colleges have anyway.

Moved to Georghia, Wisconsin, Virgina, and California after college. Came back to Omaha a second time which is a river's throw away from Iowa. Midwest is best for raising a family.

Iowa is great in terms of raising kids, simple/quiet life. If you're young and don't have to stay for some reason, get out now, you can always go back. I've lived in Des Moines, Lansing, Chicago, Tampa and now Cleveland. I wouldn't go back to Iowa over any of them but Lansing.

Exactly. Really depends on who you are, though.

When you move out of state you'll notice a significant drop off in work ethic, and over a few years it will likely translate into you making a lot more money. Then you get promoted a few times into management and you can spend your mornings typing on Cyclone Fanatic.

:biglaugh::biglaugh: I don't agree with the drop off in work ethic, but the rest is funny.
