Let's not BOOO Army

Ok I haven't been around for a while but the season is fast approaching and something keeps bothering me when I think about the Army game.

First, I am sorry if this had been discussed already but it will also need to be mentioned again the week of the game.

It is very common when the opposing team takes the field the fans BOOO them. Very OK with this since I usually have participated especially when it is Iowa or Nebraska.

But now we are about to have Army come in and I sure hope we don't boo are future Army Lieutenants (officers). Some of which will most likely end up on the battlefield with in a year.

I for one was in the military albeit the Army NG but I have the utmost respect for the Active Duty guys more. So I have a plea to start talking about not booing and passing it on to others not to boo that weekend. Maybe Jon Miller needs to bring this up too, to get the word out.

I would sure hope we could be more creative than booing our future Military leaders.

I know it is corny but something like “Go Army beat Navy, but Today is a Cyclone Dayâ€￾ would be far better. Think of a stadium giving a praise to the Army team but reminding them also this is still our house.

Now I know some of the Navy people on here would argue about saying Go Army beat Navy but to bad I was in the Army and it is my thread. Don’t like it think of something else.

Screw them. They are the enemy. They'll get plenty of praise when they aren't on our football field, out defending the country.

They are the enemy to us on the field of play.

And I'll boo Army all day long because I hate Army and I hope they lose every game they play.

I'm sick and tired of everyone making everything into more than it is. It's a football game. I'm not making comments about your service to your country, your heritage, your mother's cooking or anything else. I want to see my football team kick your football team's *** on the field of play. That is all.

I want ISU to beat Army also, but I don't see the need for booing when they take the field. So you are saying it is ok to disrespect others just because it is a game?

I have had very little respect for an Iowa player or a Nebraska player. To me they are just a football player and a student. And it does not bother me to boo them.

The guys that play for the military schools are not just football players and students but actual military. I see no need to boo military people no matter what the situation is.

Here nor there
There was booing when ISU played at West Point...clearly we have their approval to treat college football as a game. I have no problem either way.

I was hoping to get a camo shirt made in ISU colors with an I-State logo on it. Thought it'd be nice way to show respect and still sport ISU gear.

Have to say I agree. This is a football game, not a battle between the US military and the taliban.

thought I'd chime in on this... it's a good topic that I think can go either way. I've attended a few Navy-Air Force games in C. Springs in recent years (my brother is a naval officer who was stationed at cheyenne mtn.)... anyway, my point is, the academies all have great rivalries and give each other a lot of crap. After the B-1 flyover before the game in '05, the PA announcer yells "GO AIR FORCE, SINK NAVY!!!" Was that rude? Do the other academies say "shoot down air force!" I dunno...(see attached for our sign made to slam AF) but if those army athletes are going to be patrolling the boonies of Afghanistan someday, I sure would hope they could handle some booing from a crowd at a football game. The USMA chooses to field a football team at the D-1 level and play, therefore they should be subject to all that goes along with the sport.

However, unless it's kNU, or EIU, I'm not really into booing a team, and does it really matter? can you even hear it with the band and loud speaker tunes playing simultaneously all the while our players try to navigate through smoke and avoid the goalposts?

Yes, I'm positive it can be heard. As players, I doubt they really think about it a whole lot though. But, I would still rather be in favor of showing a little more respect to this team (and still beat them by 40 points).

When we were at Army we were told by a truckload of Cadets as they drove by "If you cheer for Iowa State the terrorists have won." We laughed, they seemed kind of serious... kind of haha

If anyone is interested I could try to find the photos from that trip and get them posted again.

Being A NCO myself, This may be my only time that I may boo an officer and get away with it. Appreciate the gesture, but please do not rain on my parade.
