Conditt is 2nd on the team in PER and box score +/- behind Haliburton.. he needs to start.

Maybe Conditt is a guy that is at his best playing the minutes he is playing. He has to bang around with players a lot bigger and more physical than he is and that may take a toll on him.

Conditt needs more minutes. Need a shot blocker in the game. ISU can’t give 80+ points every night and win many games
Conditt is good at chasing blocks, but his defense is brutal at times.

We’re best in a high paced game, and Conditt in transition is much better than Young and Jacobson. It’s as much his offense as to why he needs more minutes imo.

Can’t be worse than the other big guys on defense. 80+ points every game won’t work

It can, and often has been.

He played more than Young against Oregon St and Alabama, games in which we gave up 80 and 89. Plus, foul trouble is an issue.

Grill first off bench. He doesn't stuff the stat sheet, but he seems to know what he's doing out there.

Jacobsen seems better in short bursts. Let him go full effort and get him out.
This line up minus Nixon. Grill taking what’s open and looking for teammates. Nixon backing out and waiting for SH’s D to get set on that steal so he could chuck it had me pissed. Condit being there for the block while solo D’s up their bigs.

There is no reason solo and conditt cant be on the floor at the same time.. play zone D teams are already shooting lights out from three against the man to man D and they got killed on switches over and over tonight

Going 1-2 isn’t ideal but it was nice seeing Bolton and Nixon play better these last two games. Hopefully they can keep playing like this going forward.

Was also nice seeing Tre get more minutes and knock down some shots. Right now I’ve noticed every miss of his is short. I don’t know if that’s fatigue from playing hard on defense or nerves. I know from my playing days when I was really nervous, it seemed like I consistently missed short because I was thinking about it every time and not just shooting it. Hopefully Tre can make that adjustment and just let it fly because I do believe he’s one of our better shooters.

Nice to see we have all these experts available at Prohms disposal. FYI if you used the word needs, you're considering yourself an expert.

The only thing I see that "needs" to happen is our nine players need to play enough preconference to determine what truly is our best rotation. Hopefully Haliburton makes the cut.

I think that everything depends on the team ISU is playing. Certainly no one but Hali has proven that they are indispensable. No one else has shot good enough to clearly be a must starter, and no one else has defended so well they need to start. Just a lot of new guys trying to fit in right now. Jacobson and Young are both guys that are going to struggle against athletic bigs.

It has been frustrating because, at times, they have been a very good team, and not so much at other times. Prohm knows what he is doing, it is just going to take time.

My guess is Prohm is going to work his way to a seven man rotate like he has in the past the only difference being the two off the bench could vary from night to night.

Jacobson or Griffin at the post.
Jackson or Grill at the guard.

Lineup doesn’t mean jack sh*t if nobody knows how to defend or box out

This team can score well enough, they are having a couple of 5 min defensive lapses each game that are the real problem. Not to mention, when they crank up the defense it usually results in some easier points for us.

not sure I like Jackson and Grill together too often right now and worry about offense w/ that 5 overall. There was a stretch tonight when those Jackson, Grill and Zion were in together... semi-cringeworthy. I do think Jackson and Nixon could be opposites (meaning 1 is on the floor when the other is out) with their defensive ability, then could probably do something similar w/ Grill/Bolton

Definitely can tell rotations are still being figured out by the coaches
Yeah, for the moment, Grill, Jackson and Zion can't exactly get their own shots so they limit the offensive options. Grill and Jackson keep improving though - happy to see them contribute.

Also, there are a lot of people on here that are certain about what line-ups Prohm should play but still haven't picked up on the correct spelling of Jacobson's name.

All of our players need to box out better. Conditt had a personal 4 point swing when he stood there and let a guy go right by him for a put back then through the inbounds pass out of bounds. We have enough size to rebound but we need to have more effort boxing out.

a few thoughts through 7 games

  • Jacobsons regression has been discouraging
  • Nixon is a beast on D but is still the volume chucker on O he was at CSU
  • Griffin has not taken the next step like many hoped he would
  • Grill has been a very pleasant surprise. kid isnt going to light up the box score but does a ton of little stuff
  • I thank God every game Bolton got his waiver approved
  • Conditt needs to be more focused on his crap defense than he does hollarin' to the crowd or trash talking

And we seem to get shoved underneath or have two or three players clustered 3 feet from the basket. By that point box-out is largely ineffective. Opponent just has to reach over or tip from behind.

Pretty much agree with all of this. Though I’m not sure how much Jacobson has regressed vs he padded his stats against mid majors and then was really inconsistent in Big 12 play. 15/8 one game and 6/4 the next. He’s always struggled offensively vs P5 bigs inside.
