I had to make two or three runs @ it before I got through it. Didn’t much enjoy.
Try picking it as your book for a HS book report without knowing the format of the book report when you started the book. Then finding how the format of the book report was writing a job resume for the main character when you were about halfway through it.

Enjoyable, though the pace feels slow and I don’t particularly care for them shoehorning hobbits into the story. I guess I’d prefer this to turning it into an action flick, but it feels like they’re developing characters that we don’t really need to know.
It feels more like they wanted to produce what they thought people wanted - angst, hobbits, battles, cgi.

I've only made it through the first episode of Season 2 so far and I'm mostly enjoying it, but it still has many of the flaws of the first season so far with you guys mentioning one of those flaws. Yes, the Harfoot storyline is painfully slow. I groan every time we jump back over there. I think its their attempt to reproduce the Frodo and Sam dynamic with Nori and her little friend (can't even remember her name), but it just isn't working, at least not so far. I do like how this season is starting to fill in some of the gaps and questions from Season 1. I also know it is a very aesthetic-driven complaint, but I still can't get over who they cast for Elrond and Galadriel as being pretty much 5 foot nothing elves. Its like you serious?? I'd say both are decent enough actors, but it just takes me away from the regal awe I like to see when looking at elves.

Yeah. Are they hobbits? That’s how I’ve been taking them. Either way, I truly don’t see their value to the story
I suppose you could call them proto-Hobbits. I guess I don't mind waiting to find out why they're important. I'm enjoying that part of the story.

I think there's a bit of backstory to how Gandalf became concerned with hobbits, but I don't think it's particularly prominent. I get why they did, as The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings is heavily invested in them.

Clearly the Harfoots and Hobbits are just slightly different versions of the halfling race, likely one the distant ancestors of the other. In fact, the dark wizard calls the two girls halflings in episode two just like the orcs called the Hobbits halflings in LOTR.

Anyone been enjoying the new season? I never read the books but really enjoy the lore and the world that was built. I've seen some book enthusiasts not liking the shortcuts the show has taken but I've enjoyed it. I just don't want the stranger to be Gandolf but seems like that's what the show is eluding to.

I am, for the most part.

Some parts of the story are better than others, but I find it enjoyable.

I'm enjoying it. It might be the most beautiful show I've ever seen. The most recent episode had the right amount of story and tension, which I feel has been off a bit so far this season.

I think this is in the appendicies of the ROTK, basically describing the different tribes(?) of Hobbits. But eventually they all kind of settled together in the Shire.

The Harfoots were browner of skin, smaller, and shorter, and they were beardless and bootless; their hands and feet were small and nimble; and they preferred highlands and hillsides. The Stoors were broader, heavier built; their feet and hands were larger; and they preferred flatlands and Riversides. The Fallowhides were fair of skin and also of hair, and they were taller and slimmer than the others; they were lovers of trees and woodlands.

Curious if anyone saw War of the Rohirrim?

Seems like the only negative reviews are angry it's a right retaining movie or the kind of guys who rage whenever a main character is a woman. Actual fantasy/lotr/anime fans seem to like it.

Regardless of how it's received it's kind of a new bar for anime in theaters in terms of distribution. Definitely for a non-Ghibli movie.

Of course old school Tolkien fans would feel very comfortable with anything from Middle Earth as animated films. The three classic animated films actually hold up imho with various charms. The Hobbit is easily better than live action for me.
