I'd like to see a position created for Mac in the Ath. Dept. like "Coach Emeritus" or something similar. Let him do PR events and fund raising. Just throwing this out there.....

just one flaw in your suggestion: I think Mac actually wants to coach, and will have plenty of jobs available to him to do so if he wants to.

Why do people always think our coaches would make good ADs once they're done coaching? It's not just a job when you get older you're automatically good at because you coached.

I know a coach at a nearby high school to ISU. He is the freshman football coach. Every year Dan was at ISU he would send the freshman coach a card congratulating him on his season. It was hand written and pretty long. The coach is a monster hawk fan, and even he loves Dan.

I remember watching the end of a spring practice one day when he yelled at the players for leaving too much crap around the locker room for the managers to pick up. A "who do you think you are?" talk. I went right back to my office and cleaned it up before the janitor got there...

Rhoads did the same thing.

I love everything about this. Mac and Loney were the first D1 coaches to offer me a scholarship. Even though injuries my senior year meant I ended up elsewhere Mac kept in touch with me and my family my entire college career. Class act guy that far too many people on this site disrespect.

Links to said disrespect?
