I would go with Dikembe Mutombo, Ray Allen, D Wade, Steve Nash, and Duncan. He may end up being a great TV guy and may be enteretaining, doesn't mean he doesn't have his fair share of dirty plays. Let's ask Luis Scola how classy Fisher is. It could be my hate for Kobe spilling over and he may not be as bad as I think, but I am still not sure I would put him in the top 5.

Fisher has one "dirty" play in his career and that is when he knocked Scola on his ***. He got suspended and took it. I think his career for being a great team player speaks for itself.

Actually I was about to post to man up and say I stand corrected. I feel a lot better about the trade.

Jerry West was GM for the GRIZZLIES during the time the trade went down. Pretty much f'd the team and left.

So ... what pick do the Grizz get in 2010 then? first round I guess ... barely.

The 2010 picks are vitual tie as the Lakers finish first and the Grizz are in the lottery. Not sure who they picked in 2008 ... hope it was someone good.

Guess I was more referring to his humanitarian work and millions he has given to his foundation and to building hospitals in The Congo.

You have to be kidding by still moaning about an unfair trade. You have a guy that you know is going to leave your team for free agency and you are able to get a former #1 overall (there is potential, i.e. value, in a still young at the time former #1 even if he hadn't performed up to expectations up to that point), a guy who is now playing center for your team and holding his own (younger Gasol brother), various other stuff, and two first round picks. Even in retrospect that is a good return for somebody that was going to leave anyway for free agency.

Yeah, who knows that really went down ... but having West in the mix as the organizer of the trade just kinda smells wrong.

He did all the right things with the Lakers and all the wrong ones with the Grizz. Even while he worked for the Grizzlies. just suspicous that's all.

Because West needed a good laugh, and he knew that if he made a trade with his former team (the Lakers), people on message boards across the world be irrationally obsessing over the whole deal years after the fact...

History has shown that the Lakers worked the Grizzlies even more than it seemed like at the time of the trade. The Lakers dumped 3 overpaid scrubs that the Grizz would have been better off not even having to take. They could have gotten similar performance for less money on the free agent market. The older Gasol is basically twice the player that the younger one is - this is even more critical when you are trying to end up with the championship hardware.

The 2008 1st rd pick ended up being Donte Greene who was immediately dumped to the Rockets for Darrell Arthur. Arthur is basically a decent, but not exceptional, 6th man. I don't see the yet to be chosen 2010 draft picks as having a big impact either way. The Lakers will end up getting a comparable talent for less money with the Grizzlies 2nd rd choice.

Coulda woulda shoulda? Let's see, we can get nothing or two first rounders, a still young former #1 (only you can say he was worth nothing at that time, do you know what hindsight is?), and the brother of the player you are trading (if you think Pau is so great, don't you think there is potential his brother could be pretty good as well?). Which should we choose? And, as a follow up, how much should the Lakers pay for a soon to be free-agent (there was no guarantee they would be able to re-sign him)?

Logic and reason be damned, the Lakers got an unfair advantage!
