Yep. I have no problem with the guy going to bat for his kid but like, really? Every single school and scouting service missed on a guy who can apparently play 4 positions and shoot like hell?

As other have said, if he wants on the team then he can walk on and prove it. I'm sure someone around here would step up and NIL him all the scholarship money just based on name value alone
He’s probably much better than the mccaffrey’s, but man is that a low bar

This is the transfer portal era. Pick a school that’s a good fit prove yourself and maybe Iowa State will be there after that.

Hoppen played at Nebby if I remember right. And "suicide Steve" was at Missouri

For the younger members of CF "Suicide Steve" accidently shot himself while cleaning a gun. The student section chanted that and also brought cap guns to shoot off when he shot free throws. Yep times were different back then and fun to.
I believe he told the cops that he was firing at a burglar. So the students would yell “burglar” at him when he was at the free throw line. Pretty tame considering what the Missouri student section would do to harass opponents.

I love how invested Marcus is in Iowa State still and his jersey should be hanging and I don’t care if he didn’t graduate. He was a generational talent, look at a place like North Carolinas rafters. This is a rare miss by our athletic department. That said don’t care who a recruits dad is if talking scholarship. Either good enough or not.

Equally embarrassing is the ISU fans replying to him agreeing with him and hyping him/his son up
How about a little research? DJ Fizer JR has been picking up scholarship offers:
Southern Mississippi back in January, for instance and has led his team in scoring on multiple occasions this year. Nothing wrong with that.

And no denying his father is one of the greatest to ever play at ISU. He was unstoppable. My favorite reply was when he was asked early in January of his final season (2000) when the Cyclones would lose again and he said there was no reason they should. They won the Conference, Conference tournament, and were on their way to a Natty, but we aren’t going there… yesterday was painful enough.

Why is everyone mad that a legend from our University is pumping up his son and trying to get him an opportunity at his former school? It’s not like he is hitting up Purdue and saying his son can help them. Get him an NIL walk on deal and see if he can work his way into a scholarship with Iowa State. Clearly he is now getting some offers. I’m guessing Fizer Jr would consider a walk on offer since he grew up being a fan. If he can’t cut it, we lose nothing

Is the kid good enough for the Big 12? Or is this just attempting to throw the old man a bone. I also dont have an issue with dad pumping up his kids value, whats he going to say his kid sucks?

I don't mind him pumping his kid up either. But this isn't the first time he's done this. He's been doing it on and off all season, as well as doing the same thing trying to get a coaching job a few years back.

I completely agree with what you said about the NIL walk on stuff. That's 100% the path to take instead of being passive aggressive on twitter. Or with the portal go to the best location possible and work your ass off to get here.

At the end of the day though there's also a huge difference between randoms like us here saying that vs a program legend.

Southern Miss? The Southern Miss the basketball powerhouse? Yeah we better offer him 2 scholarships if he is that good.

I don't think he has to put it on social media with the quote "whatever' like our staff is being blind. I think an ISU legend supporting his son can be done with private conversastions.

He sounds like someone that ISU should keep an eye on during his senior year. At this point any 6' 6" player that can make a jump shot is more than most of the players on this team.
