It would be a disservice to the player to recruit him for any reason other than his abilities.

I don't even know where to start with this line of thinking.

I agree. We argue for weeks on where the scholarships will come from and now some want to offer a kid who will keep the bench warm at the expense of say, Kelm (insert player we really need) because his Daddy is rich and famous.

No way to build a program. It's hard enough.

" We should not recruit this guy just because his dad played in the NBA. 6' 2" 180 is not big enough to play SG in the Big 12. Let him go to some small major school or a mid-major somewhere"

This sounds familiar...a 6' 2" guard whose father was an NBA player that was a 3 star recruit out of high school. STEPHEN CURRY!

If we let Marcus Jordan go we are letting a 30+ point per game scorer just like Curry, is that what you want to do?

(Joking...of course)

Remember when everyone got all worked up about the possibility of his older brother Jeff playing at ISU? Well Jeff is not exactly lighting it up at Illinois right now. Last year he averaged 5.3 minutes a game and 1.0ppg while shooting .292 from the field. This season he's only averaging 10mpg, 1.3ppg and shooting .500 but that's just 4-8 from the field and he's only played 3 minutes each in their last 2 games. Basically Charles Boozer has done as much if not more really and Booz doesn't even see the floor as much as Jeff does.

I haven't seen Marcus play, is he significantly better than his brother?

Without knowing much more than what I've read, Marcus is way better than his older brother. Marcus is a starter for one of the best high school teams in the country (along with Colvin...SCORE!!). USAtoday recent ranked them 17th in the US as a team. They will play in big time tournaments against the top ranked teams across the US. I'd say Marcus is definitely D1, major conference material. However, ISU is already loaded at guard and our scholarship situation is already hazy. I don't think we take him even if he was interested just because we don't have the space for another guard. We need to save space for Kelm and HB.

Please don't let this become a scholarship dicussion. That horse has been thoroughly beaten.

I was always under the impression that Jeff didn't have big aspirations with basketball in that he just did it for fun...

Very reasonable. The young man is probably pretty good!

I agree. It would be good to keep this from becoming a scholarship discussion again. That horse turned into digested hamburger quite a while ago.

This shouldn't be possible, but the "dumbfounded discussion" brought up the phrase to my tired mind, "You kept making all the stops?"

So, on that note, here ya go.

I don't do serious posts, so if you see one from me, it's pretty much BS. I don't want you to get dumbfounded again, I've got enough problems with DJK15 and southernhawk

Gotcha. Hard to see the sarcasm and I had to laugh at the thought of Hoiberg talking Michael Jordan's son into walking on at Iowa State because he has NBA experience.

Hornacek, not Hoiberg. If we were desperate we would call on the mayor.

Would he come here as a walk on? I could see him doing that if he liked the school, coaches, and wanted to be around Colvin. I'm sure money isn't a problem. He's rated as a 3 star recruit, which means to me that he should be good enough to have a chance to play.

Around here, probably not. I think it still has a pulse.

Actually I am rather sure that the horse is dead around here. I do not however believe that that will prevent many from going ahead and beating it anyway.

I would love to have Marcus Jordan as a player on our team, but we probably can't use him right now. He is a talented player, but we are pretty much stocked for guards. If he came here I would be fine with it, but it isn't going to happen.
