This one reminds me of this Texas Tech guy, only worse:

I forgot about that Texas Tech kid. I always think of this gem from Greg Paulus when I think flop:

Sure Smart flops and maybe more than most, but show me a guy that's never flopped to try to sell a foul and I'll show you a guy that's never played basketball. The guy is a former Big 12 player making tons of money in the NBA so I won't pile on him. I wish we had more former players in the NBA. I never did get all the piling on Smart because he uses any edge he can to try to help his team win, and everybody knows that sometimes flops pay off, especially when driving to the bucket. There are fouls all the time that aren't called and it's the officials job to make the call or no call. It's all part of the game and good luck if the league thinks they are going to completely eliminate players from trying to sell a foul when there may not be one.

Well, it's considered unsportsmanlike. That's why there's fines for it. That probably has a big part to do with why he's piled on.

There is a difference between selling a call, and flat out flopping. Plenty of guys sell calls, but I've never seen anyone flop like Smart.

Does the NBA ever T up players for flopping? I thought it was in the rules but I have never heard of it being used. The fines don't have much teeth in them with how much these guys make. Cut into their playing time and hurt their team and it can start to make a difference.

True, although with instant replay it's now a little easier to spot. However it's still part of every basketball game you watch and will be impossible to eliminate. Kind of like a catcher moving a pitch just off the plate back into the strike zone to fool the ump or a lineman continuing to hold until the official calls it. Players in every sport will use any edge they can to win and it's on the refs and umps to make the calls. Always has been, always will be.

As much as I detest it, flopping has become part of the game. When the officials stop buying the flop then it will go away, until then it will remain an integral part of it. I believe we have seen the last of Marcus Smart flopping for this season.

What an idiot. I hope refs take note of this and let guys bang him more and not call the foul.

I watched a video that was a recent top 10 list of worst flops and one of the hockey ones on there drew an embellishment penalty on the guy who flopped. I wish they were more willing to call those in other sports.
