If I banned people for being jerks, not many people would be here. I gave my quick impression of what I thought it was like from a very brief look at it quite a while ago. My impression was evidently mistaken. Sorry you took it so personally. Maybe you should look into that.
Who took it personal? You're the one that started with the name calling. That title doesn't make you special.

Mastadon, is just a leftwing version of Parler.

Not trying to be political, but a spade is a spade. For years we have had all these poor excuses of alternate social medias that people threatened to go to from one political leaning, only to either never go, or to go and return to Twitter or FB a short time later. This is just the opposite political leaning version of that.

It is very similar to saying if your candidate doesn't win you will move out of the country, and yet no one actually ever leaves.

What a lot of people find out is they are used to having a lot of followers and interaction that was built over time on Twitter, FB etc. And when they go to these new alternates, it is very new, with very few people, and in the days of expected instant gratification, they dont like the fact that they have 1/100th or much less than that of the following that they had on the previous platform, and they soon fall back to those. This is especially true for people that make their living from the popularity contest that is Social media marketing.

Whether you are right or left leaning, going to these alternates has never really worked out as people expected. They just dont gain the instant users fast enough, and even if they did, it would likely be that their systems have not been built to handle that kind of mass increase all at once and they would run into mass technical failures, and people would be discouraged by the influx of technical bugs.

Maybe this one will be different than the dozens of other alternate platforms out there already that are mostly stagnant, but I doubt it.

Some truth here to be sure but it ignores some objectively unprecedented weird/inappropriate stuff from Twitter.

Mark Zuckerberg doesn’t frequently post fake news stories from known fake tabloids to 130 million followers…not that I’m a fan of his. It took Musk 38 hours as CEO to do that.

Again not a fan of Zuckerberg but he also doesn’t post to 130 million on his own platform to vote for a specific party on Election Day. Heads would certainly and understandably have exploded if he did behave like that.

Yes I know mastadon has been around for a while, it still doesnt change what it is/has become. And there are a LOT of other so called alternate social platforms that have tried to take the place of the major ones for years. So far none have, its not just Parler or Truth. Of the ones you mentioned I am not sure any of them beyond Myspace would ever be considered successful or saw mainstream use, for them to be considered Highly used, then decreased. And none have been close to the level of Twitter, FB, etc. But sure there can be something new that comes along, but it would need to really be something new. FB didnt try to copy Myspace, it was different and new, Twitter didnt try to copy FB it was new and different. So far everyone is trying to copy what is already successful, what is there, and putting some political or other spin on it. That is not really going to work, that is only going to drive the most radical or fringe people there for those reasons, not because its something new/different/cool.

You and others can bet against Musk all you want but he is the richest man in the world for a reason, and its not because he makes bad business decisions, and he has a huge amount of support and followers. He also has built and runs many uber successful billion dollar companies. That are on the cutting edge of everything from digging holes, to going to space.

Personally, I will put my bet on Musk and his companies before I bet on any of those trying to compete with him, or bet that he will "run Twitter into the ground" because I might have a different political view or be scared of someone he allows on the platform I dont like. Or because he refuses to censor those I dont agree with.

There is already talks of him restarting Twitters Short form video platform, to compete with the Tik Tok etc videos, And talk of long form to compete with YT, with income generation. The thing some are focused on is he is airing the Dirty laundry and getting rid of the people that didnt want to actually work. Will there be bumps, sure, just like every change in ownership has, but I expect it to succeed in the end.

I think it is hilarious the people that are bent out of shape over him buying Twitter. Its absolutely hilarious, a whole lot of cope being dealt.

And still my Tesla stock is still doing much better than all his so called competitors stocks are.... of which I unfortunately also own several as well.
Musk is a spoiled **** who ripped off the government for years.

Are these good business decisions:
- tweeting fake news from a known fake news tabloid to 130 million followers in your second day as CEO of twitter itself
- the source is so fake that they actually reported the person he was replying to died six years ago
- telling everyone as CEO of twitter to vote for one specific party on Election Day
- firing thousands of people and immediately trying to hire hundreds of them back
- meet with Putin, then run a poll asking how many people think NATO should give Putin exactly what he wants even though he’s losing
-when 73% of his own followers disagree with him in his own poll he says they are all bots…I disagreed with him, I’m not a bot
- a week later starts making corporate decisions with same polls, somehow no bots now!

I mean I could go on. There are dozens of them almost daily that are horrific business decisions. If he succeeds it’ll be in spite of a ridiculous amount of early poor decisions.

I have a Mastodon account. I'll probably only use it if Twitter comes apart. I'd rather Musk didn't own Twitter, but that won't keep me from using it.
