To his credit, he's raised the level of recruiting. To his detriment, he's underachieved with what he's had. Left a lot of wins on the field.

And the thing with recruiting (and football programs in general is) if you're not progressing, you're regressing.

Recruiting could easily take a spiral if this program appears to be sputtering out

Just remember you have no idea what emails and messages the kicker got after the Kansas game.
I’m sure he got some really ****** emails because we have some ******** in this fan base. But the problem was not including “some of” in his statement.

Do I think it’s a major issue? No. And I agree he was probably just frustrated. But it still wasn’t a good thing to say and was still incorrect.

Comes with the territory. These guys are pros now with the NIL deals. This ain’t amateur hour anymore.
And way to remind everyone you’re an ass

I'm afraid this might be the beginning of the end for CMC if he doesn't take some responsibility for these losses and do something about the offense. The fanbase will not be kind to CMC for ridiculing them after all the support they give to this program that continues to lose games they have no business losing.
It will only be the end for Matt if he wants it to be. It would be nice if he took some responsibility and was open to making some offensive changes. I think he will be. He is a little slow on the uptake.

Peaks and valleys at ISU. This here is a valley, duh. Need to score points or we will be last in the Big 12, or close to it. That's not what Matt signed up for.

I think maybe the worst thing that's happened to ISU football is getting Campbell, and being abnormally successful by Iowa State football standards in a short amount of time. Now every time we don't win 8 or 9 games it's unacceptable and we need drastic changes.
I disagree that you set the fans expectations at 8 or 9. Our fans won't accept 0 wins for very long. It cost Danny Mac his job and it cost Steve Prohm his job. Our fans expect competency. And the offense is falling way below that right now.

That's not covering for him. That's just his assessment that Campbell isn't going to inject that kind of instability into the program mid-season. I think he's probably correct; I'd be very surprised if Campbell made that kind of move now.
I get that, but I feel the ones with voices(media) should speak on our part. Ask the hard questions. Don’t be afraid to ask them and put our coaches on the spot. They are paid millions to answer to these things. No more softball questions or editorials.

I mean, it’s a tough reality, but our improved recruiting still has us bottom half of our conference. He’s done more (both in terms of winning and raising the bar) than any coach we’ve ever had. When he came, 3-3 would have been absolutely acceptable and we would have looked at how close we were to winning these games and felt decent about finding three mor to become bowl eligible (which again would have been a big deal).

For sure. It was a dumb thing to say. But I don’t think there’s any reason for our overly sensitive fans to overreact to it.

Honestly, he’s got a little fire now. I think the quote is less about him bashing the fans and more about him being pissed in general. We should all be happy he’s pissed.

I posted this last week, someone leaked his cell number and a bunch of people went after him directly; not to mention in social media. Bad look for the students into boo him during introductions tonight too. I thought it was set up for him to make a game winner at the end of the game, but…
If that happened, shame on those people and students. No room for that. Campbell probably heard about it and went on defensive mode.

It's big time sports. Need to put your big boy pants on I suppose. Doesn't mean you have to like it. Campbell needs to coach for these after-game situations. I also think Campbell needs to be a little more honest and direct with some of his feelings. Not always easy.

He wants these kids to succeed. So do we.
