If CMC hasn't been dealing with a team chemistry issue, he will be doing so now. Think of the players who came back this year to take care of unfinished business. We attempt a field goal with 30 plus seconds left rather than score a touchdown and then try an onside kick?? How does management of the last 10 minutes of the game look if the score is 27-24 with an onside kick coming up and 20 seconds on the clock?

Brock doesn't have a NFL arm. He's not a pocket QB either. It's nothing against him, but we aren't scheming to his strengths.

He's great in the play action type of game, at his best when he can just get out, find the guy, get to them to go make a play.

But that doesn't mean the first play of a series needs to be a run since the whole stadium expects it.

No it doesn’t. I’m going to be very interested to see how our game in Waco goes in 2 weeks. Baylor looks improved from last year and we generally do not play well in Waco. Will be a pivotal game down there.
There are no easy conference games this year. Baylor looks better, Tech and K State looked improved too.

Our offense needs to improve if we stand a chance of getting back to Dallas this year. We will not win all the close games this year that we won last year if our offense doesn’t get their act together.

Kicking a field goal there is the right call. But yes the mismanagement of the last quarter was my biggest gripe.

I will defend their commitment to the run game. We have our first consensus all American running back who needs to just get touches. Problem is they're stacking the box and pushing the corners on the line and making Brock do what he's not good at.

I like the commitment to the run game too. Heck it was there today.

But the commitment doesn't have to be forced.

I waited until now to read this intellectually drained thread. ISU beats few, if any, teams on the schedule with four turnovers. PERIOD!
If only it were just one game.
Did you see last week?

and September games the last few years?

Purdy has been overrated by Cyclone fans, particularly when comparing to guys like Wallace and Sage. That’s not his fault, just fans inadvertently insulting his teammates and not realizing the difference in eras.

I thought it was smart to attempt a field goal there. There was limited time left on the clock and we didn’t want to waste it driving down the field. If you make the field goal there you attempt an onside kick, and if you recover it you have time for maybe a couple plays to try and score a touchdown.

Hey tolfbfan, nice game in South Bend today. No moral victories, but your team belonged on the same field with the Domers.
They played well, but a large group of Toledo fans wanted the coach fired until now. Thank the Lord that people who type opinions on message boards have no say in how a football program is ran.

Particularly when coming with a game manager approach.
We’ve needed more Dekkers regardless of 4 turnovers. Or freshman Purdy, if he still exists

Yeah I miss Purdy with Butler too.

CMC has to stop dicking with them and this game. He’s doing the not saying their name thing, the jersey thing, the yelling at them across the field thing… it’s in his head.

Don’t think the staff quit. Concerned that it’s a f***ing clueless staff on offense and has hung its laurels on a big HeaCOCK.
I asked this elsewhere, but what would the sentiment on CMC be if Heacock had been performing at Manning's level?

That is not to say I'm not content with what CMC has built, but if we're looking to take the next step, you start with looking at the offense, which is also more under CMC. I don't think CMC is a miracle worker. Just one of the first good HC we've hired, and one that in the past has shown to be keen to look at areas in need of improvement.

In general, it is viewed that you can scheme talent better on offense, or at least hide weaknesses easier than on defense. You can build a good OL from lightly recruited guys, see UNI.

Of course Manning has earned accolades, largely in the same context as Purdy- due to the very low opinion of Iowa St from decades no longer relevant.
