Seven year contract for Rhule....would suck to be stuck in that town for so long.

I doubt he is there for 7 years. Either he flops and is fired or succeeds and moves up and out. Though Baylor can be a good job now that they have solid facilities and have outstanding geography for recruits (Texas).

Does Baylor have a fan base? I didn't think anybody went to their games

You're confusing them with TCU. A result may be Patterson leaving at some point.

The thought I've seen floated out there is that Rhule was waiting for the Penn State job to open up after this year thinking that Franklin could be gone if he missed a bowl game. With the season PSU just had, he decided now was the time to leave.

Great coach, but I don't think he has any ties to Texas? That may be his one stumbling block. Only time will tell how big of a stumbling block. He definately will not be able to recruit the way Briles did

Mack Brown had more ties to ISU than Texas when he took the Longhorn job. Like Brown, MR needs to hire some Texas roots, which I assume he'll do with haste.

This. He'll probably go after some high profile HS coach(es). Baylor will come up with the money to pay them. Todd Dodge comes to mind, although being a UT alum, he may want nothing to do with BU.

Way up there
I have not seen a defensive, Big Ten-type style like is his MO and background work in the Big 12. Eventually all defensive coaches figure out they need to outscore people, and if they can't, they disappear. Charlie Strong is a really good coach and recruiter who couldn't win in this league. There will be culture shock in Baylor with they types of players he recruits and the style he recruits to being as big of a change as they could make. He is also known as a disciplinarian. I find it unlikely that the tone-deaf administration and donor base at Baylor will give him enough leash to fully get his program in. In any case, Herman's recruiting just got better by not competing with Baylor for the same guys. Rhule will not swim in those waters. Seems like a square peg in a round hole to me.

Bill Snyder disagrees, he's adapted over time but there has never been anything flashy about what they do. The thing Snyder was able to was check his ego and win by any means necessary, even if by one point . Strong didn't understand (or didn't show) that slowing the game down on offense can help your defense, they looked like they were trying to be Oregon on offense and LSU on defense . Accepting that balance will be key for Rhule. All he needs to do is look to Strong for a perfect example of what not to do.

Strong was not a good coach at Texas. Anyone watching him scheme could see that. There were so many examples. But he was a successful Big East coach, yes.

And outscoring the other guy rationale isn't working in this league either. See Texas Tech.

Stoops wins by running the ball. So does Snyder. Dana has adjusted away from chucking it every down to a run first offense as well.
