I've got a bunch of men's basketball recruiting notes to hammer though today. Enjoy.

Also, one quick note that Fred Hoiberg and T.J. Otzelbeger will join Tron Smith and me on this week's Cyclone Fanatic/Wilson Toyota radio show. We'll all be broadcasting live at Wilson Toyota on Saturday from noon to 1. Stop by and say hello!

- Elgin Cook and Anthony Odunsi (2011 commits) will be on campus for their official visits this weekend. I'll have feature stories on each in the coming days here on the site.

What I've been hearing...

- As far as recruiting goes, Iowa State is light years ahead of where they've been in a very long time. The 2011 class is pretty much done, barring some crazy circumstances. The staff is now focusing on the future, specifically 2012.

- Tavon Sledge committed to the 2011 class and I don't think that Iowa State is even close to being done when it comes to bringing in New York kids. Keep an eye on the following New York area prospects for the 2012 class:

Nkereuwem Okoro - 6-foot-4 guard out of St. Raymond's Prep
* According to his Rivals.com profile, Iowa State has offered Okoro a scholarship.

Daniel Dingle - 6-foot-6 forward out of St. Raymond's Prep
* According to his Rivals.com profile, Iowa State has offered Dingle a scholarship.

Kamari Murphy - 6-foot-7 forward out of Abraham Lincoln in Brooklyn. That's the same school that Sebastian Telfair and Lance Stephenson went to. According to his Rivals.com profile, Iowa State has offered.

- Don't forget about these two non-NYC 2012 prospects. There's Negus Webster-Chan out of Huntington, West Virginia. Webster-Chan is a 6-foot-6 forward.

Then, there's Ray Lee out of Romulous, Michigan. Lee is a 6-foot-3 guard, who Iowa State has offered according to his Rivals.com profile.

Chris - When you saying ISU is light years ahead of where we've been in years...do you mean in terms of talent already committed or on campus or in the players that are in a position to become Cyclones in 2012?

Being done with 2011 already lets them make a lot more progress on the future at an earlier time. That's what I meant by that.

This is all great news! I just hope that the Mayor is bringing in the right kind of guys so that the program's revolving door of transfers stops. thanks for the update, Jim. I enjoy the articles you post about our b-ball teams future players.

Where do we stand with Paige? Is he too far out of reach now with Ol'Roy and Self calling? I keep hearing Roy is watching him, but where is our staff? With a recruit like that in our backyard, I'd hope our staff is attending his games/practices quite often.

I think this situation relates to an article that was posted on here about recruiting and how coaches need to let go of the "maybe" and "hoping for" recruits and focus on the talent that is otherwise more interested your school.

Which may not be the case, because I doubt any news source is going to publish a story about FH going to see a kid in his own backyard, like they did when Roy flew in from North Carolina to see Paige. What I'm saying is our staff going to see him is not going to generate news like Roy and Bill Self coming to town to take a look at him.

I agree with the fact that Hoiberg may be letting go. I can tell you FH or his staff has not been at Linn-Mar's open gyms nearly as much as Iowa, Kansas or UNC

Webster-Chan is first on my wish list. I think he is going to be a stud. He has a lot of good offers. Scout has him as a 4 star. Is there any updates on him? I thought I read somewhere over the summer that he was to come to ISU for a visit sometime as he has a good relationship with TJ.

It's pretty simple when you think about it....

When Chewy was here, you could always count on having to sign at least 4 stop gap Spring signees, because people couldn't stand playing for the ogre.

Attrition happens all the time, but what we saw when he took the job until the very last day that loser was the coach was absolutely ridiculous, and should never have been allowed to happen.

So when you don't have to spend all of the early Spring trying to find players that will leave in a year anyway, you can focus on the future, and get ahead of the game.

so I'm assuming Fred gets a pass for losing Dendy, Oliver and Boozer on his watch right away??

Wasn't Oliver's a health issue? Boozer got kicked off, and Dendy I think was gone regardless of coach.

yah thats the spin, the facts are every coach loses players, it wasn't unique to McDermott.

Boozer was kicked off by Fred, just like McDermott had to boot Mike Taylor

Oliver, reason is unknown officially, health is a message board legend, he went to another school to play BTW.

Dendy, Fred was surprised and disappointed in him leaving, told me that himself
