Right now, WV's Devin Williams is ten times better of a basketball player in the 5 position than McKay. Has a jumper, rebounds like mad, a body that won't get shoved around, and a good free throw shooter. I think McKay needs to realize what he is good at, and stop questioning coaches when adversity hits.

I was at the WV game and the whole time all I wanted was someone like him on this team. Beast.

You girls still at it? McKay is a great player and huge part of the team. No one player is bigger than the team tho.

McKay screwed up. Now he needs to make up for it - with his team. Owes the fans nothing but a great effort when he's back on the floor.

The rest you girls are blathering about is nonsense.

so being girls is a negative? You're an asshat.

Just a sad and frustrating situation.....it seems as if this could have been avoided with better communication...ISU won today, which is great! But some young players are now going to have to step in and provide minutes of play.....if it becomes addition by subtraction, only time and tide will tell...

We must watch different games then.... ive rewatched nearly everyone of the losses and i cannot point at one entry feed on a Mckay post up....

Not sticking up for Mckay missin bunnies as that does happen but those are not post ups those are monte drive and dish with a clutered lane. Would it surprise you to know that McKay is leading the team in FG % at 58%?

Bottom line is i think there is more to this then simply saying he didnt want to practice. I think there's a underlying issue within the team. There's a reason that our assist totals are significantly lower then last year.

I praise Coach for handling it the way he did - this has to be the message. Regardless of others opinions, i truly feel if this team is to progress we need Jameel and we need him right. If that does not happen - then we will be a 7-8 seed and probably not make it out of the first weekend of the tourney.

If what you're saying is an issue than I think its pretty sad that a group with a common high set of goals can't work together and avoid jealousies or selfishness. Even if others were getting the ball more, it seems to me that four straight Big12 wins is all that matters. The KState 'win' for example, we fed McKay the ball a ton right off the bat. After a couple buckets he proceeded to throw up prayers and couldn't finish. And as mentioned by others, there are plenty other examples.
Where was this attitude last year? And don't say because Fred showcased him. I guess I did't see McKay getting the ball any more last year under Fred than he does this year. In fact, Fred rode Georges as much as he could, especially vs. UAB when it wasn't great. Monte and Matt are involved more this year too. McKay needs to to do what he does best, not question if its 'as much' as his teammates. Think about it... the tweet after a good coaching move to go to small ball due to matchups to pull out the game in Florida...is about "its personal". Wow. Or the "guess its every man for himself" from the Europe game. Yes, I believe there's probably issues. But, sorry, I don't think its something that is understandably or reasonably expected to happen.

I'll go ahead and say Niang deserves all the touches he gets and more. Monte actually needs to continue to become a larger part of the offense, and I wouldn't mind Matt taking a few more than he does.

Jameel's strengths are in hustle and playing off the guys who have the ability to create. Sure, he can occasionally take his guy one on one, but that's not where his game lies. He will make a great living off what he can do well (and may add facets to his game in the process).

Edit- I'll add that Nader is in the same boat. He does really, really well at times at creating for himself, but he's better when we can arrange an advantage for him.

Agreed on every point. There has never been a truer post.

The oddest aspect of this situation is that no coach would sacrifice the best chances for helping their team win by "featuring" some players over others because they are on some award list or individual accolade list. That's simply asenine. You put your players in the best position possible for success! Your players success is YOUR coaching success. Therefore you put Jameel in a gameplan that maximizes his strengths, i.e. "to hustle and play off the guys who DO have the ability to create." Jameel should absolutely know that and likely deep down does, but ego is getting in the way.

I remember seeing plenty of Jameel post ups because I remember yelling at my TV every time he does a move he ends up throwing up an off balance shot that banks so hard off of the back board that it rarely hits the rim.

When the guy that recruited and coached you does "what's best for himself" and leaves - then the media praises him and says "you gotta make the right decision for yourself" then it has to be hard for a kid to understand why he has to sacrifice for the team - even though I could argue McKay would be nothing without these guys.

Seriously. I don't know how some seem to disagree with this idea. Whatever happened to getting the ball to your best players. Whatever happened to utilizing the strengths of every player.

I guess some seem to think that in a true team, everyone gets to do everything equally.

Re: Not traveling to OSU??

In all honesty, I would take Woodbury's hustle, work ethic and "team first" attitude over ANY player we have. You wonder why a team with average talent like Iowa is a top 5 team? Guys like Woodbury.

Woodbury over Niang, Morris, Thomas? You high dude.

All this talk about his touches on offense. He has 193 fga in 22 games this year. 12.4 ppg and 36 to. Last year in 25 games he had 168 fga 11 ppg and 30 to. He has plenty of offensive opportunities. A lot of those opportunities in the post end with the ball on the floor, getting kicked, or stolen. He is best suited with a lob pass for a dunk or at second chance points off the glass when he is playing above everyone.
