I honestly don't know what Nebraska expected out of their front 7 - they are really inexperienced.

I dont know just how much a part of the offense the option/wishbone was, but i remember them running it a ton in the late 80's/90's. With the emphasis on a pro style offense, and NU just being "another" school" i doubt they will every bring in as many of those 4 and 5 star atheletes like they did under Osbourne to dominate on the ground.

If Osbourne were the coach at Nebraska today I'm just not sure how successful he'd be, either. With the parity, speed, size, and talent level of today's D I-A football teams it would take playing a REALLY bad defense to just roll over an opponent without a balanced attack much like Osbourne and Nebraska did all those years. Today's defenses would probably stack the box with 8 defenders and dare Nebraska to throw over them, something they never really proved capable of doing on a regular basis. If Osbourne were coaching today he'd be an average coach at best, and Nebraska would still have fallen to where they are today.

also when did the scholarships changes take place where teams got a reduced number? I assume this began to create some parity and shrink the margin between elite programs and the rest of the country.

I don't think Nebraska fans can handle/understand the parity that is occuring in CFB now. They got so used to running up the score on everyone that now that the talent gap is closing in, they can't handle the thought of not getting 600 yards/game.

Frankly, I didn't see any parity in the SC / NU game on Saturday night...SC was so far superior to NU that it wasn't even funny!

I do agree that, in general, there is more parity in CFB. However, there appear to be 4 teams that are truly elite and a cut above the rest...SC, LSU, Florida, and OU.
