Here’s my thing. Why not take the $150 million and just go to Clemson, Florida state, and Miami and give them all $50 mill to leave the ACC. Then you bring in Memphis, FSU, Miami and Clemson. Effectively killing the ACC and solidifying the big 12 as the 3rd power conference.

I understand it’s not that easy, and there’s no way it happens. But man, that would be worthy of renaming the Conference the Yormark 22
I thought the buyout was more than that and that FSU and Clemson were going to get a larger piece of the ACCs pie?
I dont exactly recall what they ended up with.

We’re getting to the point where we need to consider not talking expansion anymore…but relegation. Perhaps the Big 12 should pick one or two mid-major conferences to have an agreement with. We play them exclusively as our easy non-conference games and their top-teams have the opportunity to move up…while our losers may be moved down.

A trip to Memphis and partying on Beale would be awesome in October, but they've always been a little salty and kinda a-holes thinking they are better than us so seeing them begging to get into our conference is steeped in schafenfreude for me.

Here is the thing, all these articles are not pointing out. We already have sponsors in place, for those things, So some of this offer would just be replacing that not be completely new money.

I think you had to have Houston and UCF to have the right number to make yourself look viable. Bowlsby made the best of a bad situation.

Yeah. They had to take four at that point. And they took the best four available.

Just saying -- BYU definitely increases the "average conference value." Cincinnati and the Big 12 had been in "will they or won't they" mode for approximately a decade+ at that point. Finally did!

UH and UCF were there to give the conference some "mass" to make it less vulnerable to future raiding. You can stay at ten with Oklahoma and Texas but need more without those lodestars.

Had the timing worked out differently, I think BYU and UC are still takes along with the Pac-12 refugees. We'd end up with 14 instead and Houston and UCF would be in a similar situation to Memphis.

Utah is only signed up until the end of this contract. Take Memphis now and decline Utah for the next round.

Good luck to 'em if they think they're going anywhere else at that point.

If the Big Ten or SEC wanted them they'd already be there.

If adding two more teams is worthwhile, why not see if Wahington State and Oregon State are willing to pay similarly and buy their way into a Power 4 conference? At least you wuld not be elevating a lower level school.

People in this thread are way too high on Memphis and way too low on Houston.

I respect the attempt from Memphis but this is a bad idea for the Big 12.

Well, I didn't want to say that, but with the new rules and pay for play, yeah.
It's like the WNBA players saying pay us what you owe us. Well, technically, they are losing $250,000 per player from what I hear. So, they are owed nothing. Same will apply to all college non-revenue sports participants.
Exactly - kind of a be careful what you wish for situation. Not saying people don’t get joy out of other things…or that all other sports/activities should go away, but if we’re talking dollars and cents, it’s all about football and MBB.

Not a bad idea but still don't trust that the 4 corner schools schools are "all in" to the Big 12. There are still enough fans of those schools, especially Utah and ASU, that want nothing to do with Midwestern schools or would like to be in a western pod with the ACC. Even though ironically Wash St and Oregon St have more in common with us than the 4 corner schools, promoting them will be more divisive.

Sit hard on the current situation.

Listen to offers,.....and let them ride.

It makes your position gain strength.

Where is Memphis getting this kind of money...?

I know $MU has Dallas oil bajillionaires behind 'em.

But... Memphis outside of FedEx? Isn't Fred Smith dead?
