Ok, first things first. Paragraphs are your friend.

Secondly, what you could do with Big 12 money would likely have no effect on the decision. What revenue you are creating right now does. If NDSU were to move to FBS and do very well in the MAC or MWC, then I could see the Big 12 being a possibility some day. Right now the difference between the G5 and the P5 is bigger than I think you realize.

Fargo vs Ames is not the comparison that needs to be made. The state of Iowa vs the state of North Dakota, 3.14 MILLION vs 758 THOUSAND is a lot more relevant.

The Big 12 is more likely to go after a Memphis or Cincinnati that would actually bring TV sets to the conference, currently have athletic revenues higher than NDSU, and currently have non football sports that compete in major conferences.

NDSU is NOT the best fit for the Big 12 unless all you look at is geography. I really hope they can move to the FBS some time soon. But when they do, you will see that the FBS is harder than the FCS. Period.
Sorry, about my bad formatting, as soon as I clicked reply I thought, "God that's going to be awful to read."

Anyways, in Fargo alone, there is currently a station for ABC, NBC, PBS, Fox, and CBS. The only networks that's not here that is in Ames are the CW and ION but those two don't broadcast sports. It has also been proven that stations such as ESPN are willing to make the trip because College Game Day has already went to Fargo for a game. Also, remember there will only be 5-7 football games in Fargo a year, the rest would be road games.

Again, I understand the transition would be a tough one and there's no way around that. But, even Sports Illustrated said that they think they could make it in the Big 10 and Bleacher Report said they can make it in the Big 12. Assuming they come in and are mediocre in the Big 12, they'd at least 2-1 at worst in non conference with easier games, they could take Kansas (who anyone can beat), Baylor, Kansas State (who they beat after being Big 12 North champions)/Texas Tech, and maybe a few other teams. Even if they lose one of these games we are now looking at a 4-8 season, 2 games from a bowl game, as a worst case scenario which is better than 2 current Big 12 teams. Meanwhile, your example of Cincinnati went 4-8 while in the AAC.

I also want to reinforce that we are looking at sports other than football. Adding NDSU gives the Big 12 10 baseball teams and one with a pretty good record. Their basketball team is pretty good too, making it to the second round of the 2014 tournament and with wins over Notre Dame and Oklahoma that season, winning the conference championship and making the tournament 2 out the last 4 seasons, and finally being included in SB Nation's "Chasing Cinderella" series with other teams such as Wichita State and Iowa State. Additionally, there are already ties to the Big 12 because they are affiliate members for wrestling where they rank up well against the other teams. This is where NDSU beats out other school. Memphis has good football but doesn't stand out in many other areas. Cincinnati is good at basketball but that's about all (even their basketball is struggling right now). If you add a Memphis and they start to fall in football then they offer nothing else and same for Cincinnati in basketball. Even if NDSU flops in football they have these other sports to support them. Also, the success at NDSU isn't something that just comes from one good player or one good coach (example Corey Davis from Western Michigan). NDSU's coach left for Wyoming a few years ago and the team has still has still thrived. Their star quarterback left for the NFL in 2016 and the team still showed dominance.

Since 2014, NDSU has produced 4 NFL draft picks. That's as many as Iowa State and Kansas combined and only one less than Oklahoma state. You have to remember this is done with a limited amount of scholarships and ability to recruit so this is pretty good.

I understand NDSU isn't the preferred choice for the Big 12 and I'd rather see another P5 team get in but the chances of that right now are not to good. As of right now, I feel the most consistent and versatile option is NDSU. Other schools go back and forth with success and aren't new markets. Places like Memphis and Cincinnati have to compete for their cities attention and with other professional sports teams. NDSU might struggle and they might be better in a Mountain West Conference first, but this is about what school is the best available option right now and I feel this is it.

Are you sure you're not Lakesbison?

I'm not going to keep arguing with you. NDSU is a good team, but still has work to do to be G5, much less P5. Good luck to you.

I admire your passion, but you're misunderstanding the television market argument given this is how you choose to explain it away.

$$$$ drives college sports. You need people to generate $$ and the more people in your market the more corporate dollars are available to spend on sponsorships, buying suites, are tuning into broadcasts. etc.

ND simply doesn't have the population.

Similar reason that Des Moines only has minor league pro teams. Yes, we could fill the stadium, but there isn't enough corporate dollars in this market to generate the kind of revenue needed.

Well, if bleacher report said they should be Big XII, then they are basically as good as in.

The Knights truly believe they won the national title despite the official championship game kicking off Monday when Georgia meets Alabama. Central Florida is going to nearby Disney World on Sunday for a parade to honor the only unbeaten team in major college football this season.

I wonder if the Big 12 wishes they had invited the Knights into the conference when it ultimately decided against expanding in October 2016?

I am impressed with what UCF has done (and glad they beat SEC SEC Auburn) but a very good football team for one year (remember they were 0-12 just a couple seasons ago) doesn't necessarily mean they bring long term value to a major conference. If this was the case, the Big 12 (or even the Pac 12) would have invited Boise State a long time ago. Look where Boise is now, they are now no better than a decent program. I would love to have a Florida away game every other year but Central Florida isn't there yet.

Big XII don’t care. But good for UCF. No available teams except BYU move the needle, and they have too much baggage. If you put in UCF, Memphis, Cincy, or whomever plus already have TCU and Baylor it starts to very much resemble a G5 conference and would be paid as such.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah

NDSU will never ever be considered nor should they be for a p5 conference.
