For those that don't want to listen for 10 mins can you expound a bit?
A summary of some comments he made in the interview.
Greg McDermott is a great coach whose had some bad luck.
Where would we be now if Staiger hadn't quit the team?
Wesley Johnson leaving the team and then blowing up at Syracuse obviously hasn't helped his situation.
Who does ISU think they are going to hire who is a better BB coach then McDermott??
The internet sites are all full of the "Fire McDermott, but nobody is asking exactly what we need to do to fix it" Football coaches when they have problems are told to fire assistants. Nobody is asking what exactly is happening that is keeping this very good coach from winning basketball games.
College BB coaches are too easily expendable. And when coaches are fired after four years, chances are the next coach will be fired in 4 yrs again.
What's going on at UNI and Ben Jacobson is a continuation of what Gmac built. What's going on at UNI is entirely based upon the foundation that Gmac built. He made the tournament 4 yrs in a row and all the sudden he turned stupid when he moved to Ames????? Mike don't think so
Nebraska is a losing program. What coach that is moving up in the ranks is going to go to Nebraska only to lose and be fired in a 4 years. ISU is different story because you can win there. ISU needs to diagnose what is going on and figure out how to fix.
If McDermott loses his job, Mike will be surprised if he doesn't have a valley job within 5 minutes of leaving Ames.
Billy Gillespie is not a good fit for Ames, he needs to go back to Texas. He says he doesn't think there is any basis to that rumor. When he coaches in his back yard is when he does best. He was like a fish out of water at Kentucky and would be the same way at Ames.
All paraphrased by me of course......so take it for what it's worth..
