I could see Bill not wanting attention for him, but I find it hard to believe he wouldn't want his players recognized and appreciated by the local media.
The local coverage is small potatoes in what is important for PR. A lot of PR for Iowa WBB comes from the Big 10 network. I've watched a handful of Iowa games and all of the ISU games, less the Texas LHN one and the holiday tourney. Despite that I've seen more Clark and Czinano game interviews than ISU player interviews. Seems Big 10 always sticks around for post game interviews and ESPN+ just cuts the stream as soon as the game is over without bothering with the courtside interviews. Can't say for sure because the Iowa games I saw were on the main BTN and not the streaming. Those casual interviews are better at building a 'brand" than the boring post-game coach speaks and idiot questions from local beat writers IMHO. We are getting those courtsides now in the NCAA's but not a lot during the season unless were are on the flagship channel that game. Throw in that there is no real Big 12 network independently producing interviews and features (which they will put on during timeouts and at halftime) and we are just behind in the PR game.
I also think it's a little bit program culture. ISU has always seemed to be more "be seen, not heard". Some of it is just personalities to, we've seemed to have had quit a few of our top stars that are somewhat introverted, or so it seems in my limited personal experience. Just an observation from an INTJ.
Example: Four years ago a courtside interview with than freshman Aliyah Boston cemented me being a fan of her. Already thought "Ah, she's pretty good" but that moved the needle to "Ah, she's pretty likeable."
