One last thing also: Balrog, if you think I'm someone who secretly wants an ISU player to go to MN, then you do not know me at all...

I do root for MN, but I'm a Cyclone fan first. It sounds like you are equating me to being some Gopher fan, who signed up for an account here, to try to rip ISU to make MN look better.

GOSH, you REALLY do NOT know me at all!

It should read:
"I signed up for this account to rip ISU"

And what I am saying is that you do not know what it's like to grow up in a college town.

As an ISU fan, I want him to come here obviously. As someone who once had dreams to play college sports, having legendary coaches to want you is something that you dream of, and would be difficult to pass up.

You make some good points, however you have to keep in mind that some of these people have biased opinions, therefor whatever you say doesnt matter.

Hmmmm ........ guys, I'm really sorry I haven't made myself clear. I am going to try this one more time.
Longhorns and Mpls, say whatever you want about Tubby or Mike or whomever, ........... and say whatever about Minneapolis and Durham, I don't give a rip, it is your right and priviledge.
What I have a problem with, and will continue to have a problem with, is people taking pot shots at our own coaches, players, and school when posting, and making comparisons. That is what I have a problem with. Maybe I have to get over it?
I did not quote you, Mpls when I originally jumped on this thread. I quoted Longhorns. He said McDermott is just an average coach and that Harrison would probably learn more from Tubby.
He's just an "average coach" that a potential first round NBA draft pick is perfectly happy with. Pretty good for an average coach, huh?
Longhorns, if I am being biased by my original post, then I guess you are calling the kettle black, aren't you? If I am indeed biased about the Cyclones on a Cyclone board, why do you find it so perplexing that I would want to take issue with your posts with regard to other schools, coaches, and cities, all the while taking pot shots at our own, in the process? On a Cyclone board?

Is it not within your ability to talk up other schools, coaches, and players, without denegrating our own?

That is as clear as I can be.

Go Cyclones

Here's the thing: I can be a fan of the school without being a fan of the coach.

Coaches come and go, but the school stays...

I don't understand what Brackins liking McDermott has to say about his coaching ability, other than there's a good relationship with the star player and coach.

You can find many sub-par coaches who developed good relationships with their players..... You can also find good coaches who had rocky relationships with players....

Your argument has no logic...

He is not a top ten coach maybe...maybe top 20

Tubby has better credentials than Few and Dixon for sure. And is probably tied with Boeheim, Howland, Calipari, Donovan at this point. Point is that you can easily argue either way for him to be a top 10 coach

That's fine, Mpls, be a fan of the school and not the coach, I just don't appreciate the negativity on a Cyclone board. Do you get it?
I didn't say or infer that Brackins was staying in Ames just because he liked McDermott, you did.......... you made that jump. Are you trying to tell me that Craig gave up an NBA career, or the option to transfer to Duke, Kansas, NCU, ......... anywhere, because he just likes McDermott? Uhhh, sorry, but what part of this discussion, has no logic?
I said three different times in this thread that Brackins thinks he can continue to learn from McDermott the "just another coach" (Longhorns words.) I never challenged the fact as to whether you liked him or not, you proffered that statement, (as though it is some kind of secret, right?) My issue is how he is described on this board. Go ahead, continue to belittle the man, ......... I'm just telling you that I don't appreciate it, and I, for one, don't think it belongs here. If that "argument" has no logic, then I am guilty.
It is just my opinion. You, Longhorns, and others will continue to do it, regardless. And when that day comes, and if Harrison chooses to go elsewhere to play basketball, you can count yourself as one who helped him make that decision. Then, you can criticize McDermott for not being able to recruit. Well done.

I would love to see what you think I wrote that "belittles" McDermott. If you think he's a great coach, can you name 6 coaches in the Big 12 he's done a better job than?

I am a guy that does statistical analysis for a living. What I try to do is look at the 12 teams in the conference. If you rank the jobs of the coaches, where does McDermott fall? If he's near the top, then he's one of the best, near the middle, he's average, and near the bottom then he's below average. Then do the same for the BCS conferences. I think it'd be pretty tough to put him higher than the midpoint...

I don't know McDermott personally, and I haven't said anything personal about him. The only thing I've criticised is the job he's done at ISU.

I also do not think it's fair to blame the fans if Harrison does go somewhere else, that's ridiculous. I'd like to know what you think I posted or what anyone else has posted that somehow implies that we'd like to see Harrison go somewhere else than ISU.

If Harrison goes somewhere else, it's because McDermott couldn't get the program where he needed it to be in the 4 years of coaching here. Most people are saying that Harrison is waiting for ISU to show him that we're going in the right direction. During this time, programs that were behind us have surpassed us, and that doesn't help. If ISU can have a strong year this year (which I hope they do), then their chances will go up a lot more.

Lastly, do you realize how hard it is to recruit a hometown kid to your school? It's a double-edged sword. The positive is that they know the town, university, staff, and players. The negative, is that you can't really spin anything to them to make your school or program sound more awesome than it is, so the other places could look more attractive. I'd really challenge you to look at recruiting more closely.

Like I said, I grew up practially on a college campus, and had a parent work at the University. I can tell you that I know what it's like to want to go to a different school than the one you're familiar with. Some of my other friends and family could tell me why they wanted to go to the school they were familiar with. It's all about personal preference.

I think you could list 10 positives and 10 negatives about any potential school that he's looking at. If he makes his decision, it's what he thought was best for him and his future....

Also, Craig did not give up an NBA career, he just delayed it by a year. It sounded like he wasn't ready for the business-side of basketball, and he wanted to finish what he started here..

As far as you don't want to hear criticism on this site, then IDK what to tell you man. I believe we all have a right to say how we feel about the program, as long as there aren't personal attacks.

In my relatively short time being an ISU fan (7 years), I've seen 3 basketball coaches, and now 3 football coaches. I will say that I have learned not to get attached to anyone. Also, when I see other school surpass us in shorter time, I get disgruntled, especially when it happens in basketball...

If the 5000+ members of this site, all posted how we loved McDermott, ISU is awesome, there is nothing wrong, etc., then what is the point of a message board? I mean, are you one of those people that enjoys reading the same thing over and over over? Perhaps since you do since you are a JRR Tolken fan and his books are quite honestly some of the most boring I can possibly think of...

You end your rant by ripping on the preeminent work of literature in the 20th century? As if that has some bearing, or is that just meant to further illustrate your tendency to ***** about everything?
