Some comments are suggesting that Freeh secretly hates PSU and is trying to take down PSU. Are you kidding me? These Penn State fans need to get a clue and face the fact that their coach enabled a man to sexually assault children.

I like the ones that are saying ESPN was the one to contact the students to change the name.

Sort of off topic but I saw that ISU took down Spanier's distinguished alumni banner. We don't need that creep associated with ISU any more than he already is.

That is because we live in a sane state unlike Pennsylvania.

I'm not trying to say Joe Pa did the right thing in this situation but I personally can't believe he knew the extent to which this was occurring. He was probably more concerned with his football players in their late teens and early 20's doing stupid things than the defensive coordinator. Could Joe have done something differently and would it have helped this? Probably yes. Was he the one raping boys? No. I understand the family wants to make sure the truth comes out on Paterno's actions because they feel he is being smeared for something he does not deserve. I don't believe Joe enabled him to do these things. I think he didn't realize how bad this was and acted poorly. I think continuing to try and place blame on individuals is not going to help prevent this in the future.

The Freeh Report showed that Joe hindered the discussion of discipline for Sandusky, and he allowed the man to maintain an office and use the facilities for youth activities until this story finally came out and exploded. Joe enabled this thing every step of the way.

If anything, digging deeper will just show even more about Joe's lapses than most thought possible.

Read some of these comments. Burn. It. To. The. Ground.

We (Paternoville)... | Facebook

I am not sure which is worse; these morons' comments, or the fact that they make them using their real names. Good luck finding a job with an employer who knows how to use Google, Dave "I hope to God Tim Tebow rapes a kid" Marselles.

I still can't believe the Paterno family. They must still be under the impression that they are royalty; no way anyone other than them is going to buy that their "findings" are going to be more credible than Freeh or the grand jury. The Paternos really need to just shut up if they know what's good for them. Jay especially makes himself look like more of an idiot each passing day.

I imagine it would be very difficult for them to come to terms with the fact that their father enabled a repeated child molestor and is about half the man they grew up thinking he was. I imagine it is tough on them to get this through their head, but in the hierarchy of people to feel sorry for in this situation they aren't real high up.

Reading the comments on that Facebook page has me the most infuriated with the whole situation since reading the grand jury report back when. The idiocy in some of these people is just unfathomable. Good for the people standing up and telling them like it is. These fans are starting to make me sick.

Idiots say stupid things on the internet. No news there.

What shocked me reading that "Paternoville/Nittanyville" facebook page is seeing idiots saying stupid things on the internet USING THEIR REAL NAMES. Talk about Pouring Chlorine Into the Employment Pool.

"Well, we were unsure about hiring you to be our Director of Public Relations, but when we saw that you were actively wishing for Tim Tebow to rape a child so that your idolization of Joe Paterno would be less painful we decided that you were EXACTLY the man we're looking for"

At this point I think the Paterno family just is doing it as therapy. This way they can look back and say "see, Joe Pa really didn't do anything wrong." It is amazing what family members will cling to so that they can believe their family is perfect.

As far as the Paterno family goes, I really can't blame them. It's doubtful anyone, except maybe his wife, really knew much about what was going on. One minute your Patriarch is the king of college football. Then accusations fly, he's fired, then he's dead. All in the course of a couple of months. If it were my dad, who I am really close to and have no problem telling him I love him, it would be very hard to just turn my back all of a sudden like this on him. I'm not condoning what Paterno did, or how the fans are reacting, but as family, this would be a tough pill to swallow the way it has all gone down.

And I also believe they also are doing this to protect themselves from the possible lawsuits.

So let's pretend that everything Erik said didn't happen, which it did. The bolded part of your statement would still make him an enabler. He failed to report something that by law you are required to report to police. And by not obtaining more in depth information, Sandusky was allowed to continue his sick ways.

The woman who stood up to Joe Paterno Get aload of this!!!!! Good read!!
After reading that story, it makes me again wonder how many schools that have a successful football program have this type of completely closed and protected culture? Anytime a coach or administration is in a place that long some abuse is going to occur. I wonder how many whistle blowers have been shamed/silenced at Nebraska?
