I saw Van Halen back in 2012 at the Staples Center. I had heard that the group's performance in Denver was lackluster, but had high hopes that they would be better in LA. The band was good, don't get me wrong, but DLR was somewhat of an embarrassment. He looked like he wanted to be a baton twirler more than a singer. He was hopping around, twirling stuff and actually singing for the first third of the concert. However, just as he did in Denver, he was completely gassed about half-way through the gig. He more or less stood center stage and spoke the lyrics, didn't even try to sing. Eddie and Dave did a couple of jumps early in the concert, nothing impressive, but the video screens behind them kept playing it over and over. It was as if they were saying, "look!! we jumped up in the air, landed and no broken hips!!". It was just sad. At least I can say I heard DLR live with Van Halen.
In retrospect, the opening group, Cool & The Gang sounded and looked better.
