Too early. Motherday weekend is when they peak typically in NE Iowa.
Been dry too this spring which is not good for them.
That's because no one's figured out how to "cultivate" them yet. Once someone figures out how to get a morel farm going either they become exceedingly rich and/or the market price of morels comes down significantly.
Actually there are 4 different patents on ways to do it, but nobody has been able to replicate them. People think the originators of the patents left out a crucial step on purpose so they could monopolize home growing them.
Didn't see any around Ottumwa area yet the last 2 days. We have the moisture, we just need some heat units. Be patient, this weather has everything screwed up, especially the turkey hunting.
