Just found out these suckers go for about 50 bucks a pound in chicago at the farmers markets.

Also see em being sold for 20-30 bucks a pound on ebay.

That's because no one's figured out how to "cultivate" them yet. Once someone figures out how to get a morel farm going either they become exceedingly rich and/or the market price of morels comes down significantly.

Actually there are 4 different patents on ways to do it, but nobody has been able to replicate them. People think the originators of the patents left out a crucial step on purpose so they could monopolize home growing them.

If true, their patent wouldn't be valid then.

Didn't see any around Ottumwa area yet the last 2 days. We have the moisture, we just need some heat units. Be patient, this weather has everything screwed up, especially the turkey hunting.

No no no no no. Dont tell me this. This is not what I want to hear as I am going down for Illinois 5th season a week from today after my last final.

Of course, my cousin has already whacked two, and it is way further south than Ottumwa, so hopefully it is going a tad better there.

Don't worry, I bagged mine 2 hours in to opening morning, 2nd season. Great hunt. Went bow hunting with my brother the next two morning and 1st day they were everywhere, 2nd hardly a peep.

That was up in Dubuque.

I was hoping to get out one of these days and go morel hunting. But this continual rain in DSM makes it tough. There were about 15 cars parked along 63rd yesterday near Brown's woods.

I was fishing at Big Creek earlier this week and found a few while walking to different fishing spots. I don't think they're out in full force yet, but definitely starting to pop up.
