My heart and my head do not agree.

Every year for the last 10 years the season starts with really high expectations. I'm done being fooled into thinking we've "got a shot". So I just sit back and enjoy the game day experience without expecting anything.

My major complaintfrom the bot last year had been that defense makes a few stops and the offense does a litany of three and outs and then the defense collapsed like a sieve. This year has to be better says the bot heart.

Ditto this. I went into the 2000 season expecting nothing after witnessing the 20 previous years of poor results. I maintained that attitude all season, reveling in the wins, and with the three losses, letting it fall off my shoulders. 2000 was 9 and 3 (unless that is officially 1999-2000). The next season, new QB named Seneca showed up. Same attitude, similar enjoyment. The season after, similar attitude for the first part of the season, and then I began to drink the Heisman cool-aid and the bottom of the jug fell out. No, though a big fan of ISU football, I will forever be a skeptic, and it seems that the team does better as long as I am.

If we do suck, will you feel better about it since you went in with a bad mindset?

No doubt about it, WE WILL SUCK. UNI by 14. It is not a bad mindset, it is just realizing we are terrible. Not only do they play like crap, they have a bad graduation rate.

The best team chemistry in the world isn't going to let Waukee High School go onto a field and beat the Alabama Crimson Tide, but attrocious team chemistry could cause the Alabama Crimson Tide to go onto a field and lose to Waukee High School.

Dumbest thing ever written? Probably

Mine did. Anyone thatthought last year was going to be a good year was simply blind to the obvious.

I wouldn't say it was so obvious last year. Had we not choked after taking the lead against NDSU, pulled out the K-State game and pulled out the Texas game, we wouldn't be lamenting last year as an awful team. We would be lementing that about the Turd laid against Kansas and not winning the Texas Tech game.

The difference between a terrible season last year and a mediocre season last year was razor thin.
