You don't get credit for improving if you're the one that digs the hole.

If we won 4 games last year, we wouldn't be saying we are improving this year. So we're saying no coaching change is needed because we won 2 rather than 4 games last year.

Basically what you are saying is that once a coach goes 3-9 (or whatever) he should be gone, because any improvements after that are fake. Right?

Once?

At an awful FB school like Iowa State if a coach wins less than 4 games in 3 consecutive years, he certainly should be gone.

Anyone who has suddenly changed their mind about this team might be in for some harsh reality in the weeks ahead I'm afraid. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see it.

We've beaten UNI and Kansas. UNI is not even close to the team they've been the last few years with David Johnson, and KU might be the worst Big 12 team EVER.... as CW himself has said.

In the UNI game, our offense did virtually nothing. We had awesome punt returns all night and great field position all night. Any halfway decent team would have put up nearly 50 pts on them that night IMO. Look at the game stats, UNI had more yards than us, more 1st downs than us, and more time of possession than us. I know stats don't tell the whole story, but they were not outmatched in that game whatsoever.

And yesterday, let's get serious here.... KU is one bad football team. South Dakota put up over 500 yds of offense on KU, so let's not get too excited about us doing the same thing as South Dakota did.

I will say this... we look like the most talented Iowa State team that I've seen in a while, but unfortunately no better coached IMO. Our offense still looks lost a lot of the time and not in sync. Playcalling still leaves a lot to be desired. Defensively we are obviously much improved over last year, but we played defense like a middle school team last year so that's not saying a whole lot. We'll see just how much improved we are starting this week with TT and the following week with TCU.

I'd argue it was more like an 8-man Iowa High School team

Soooooo since we are currently in that 3rd year shouldn't we wait to see what happens?

Of course. But that goes for the sunshine pumpers too. The ones wanting Rhoads to come back next year because of improvement based on the first 4 games.

Do you think our team is better this year than last year? Or two years ago?

It's probably better to wait until the end of the year to answer that.

But if you force me to answer that, my impression is that the team is better. But the better question would probably be- is the team sufficiently better than the last two years? And that we really don't know at this point. The first 4 games of last year were certainly tougher than the first four games of this year.

Beat TT, and I'll start to get more optimistic.

Who the hell is saying that Rhoads should just be back next year?

You're confusing that with people thinking it's in the realm of possibility for this team to justify him being retained. There's a huge difference that that you fail to recognize.

The non-con wasn't. The equivalent four games were not harder judging by the evidence we have to this point. Kansas was the same. Iowa and Toledo are better, maybe significantly and UNI is UNI. They were not harder.

Hey! Common ground. I like it.

I agree with you on this.

I meant the first four games as in literally the first 4 games.

2015 (UNI, Toledo, Iowa, Kansas) < 2014 (NDSU, Iowa, KSU, Baylor)

UNI was way down this year and Kansas is way down from last. Toledo isn't better, just mostly the same as last year. They just beat a bad Iowa State and Arkansas team. Last year they played us on the road and that very well could have been the difference maker.

Exactly. People thought we were better last year after NDSU, KSU, and Iowa. Then Baylor happened and reality came back. This year, Texas Tech is about to happen and reality is going to hit again.
