Well...hes still made something like 60+ in a row from inside of 40. While he should have made every single one of those kicks, I am a firm believer that it is your offenses job to score. The game should never be decided on the kicker.

Then why do they have field goals? Didn't we beat iowa without scoring a TD? Until they get rid of kickers they are an integral part of the scoring.

What do you believe is the kicker's job?

Like I said, it was just my opinion. I guess I'm just not the type who is goin to point at Kaeding and say its his fault because he missed 3 fgs. 57 yards? Thats not exactly a gimme nor is it an "everyday kick". 40 and 36 should be made but IMO those are probably the results of inadequacies on the offense. The Chargers were getting ridiculous penalties throughout the entire game that killed them. The Chargers have one of the best running backs to ever play the game, an amazing tight end and a pretty darn good quarterback and they couldnt move the ball 10 yards. Thats on the offense in my eyes.

You want to talk about beating Iowa without scoring a TD? That pretty much sums up Gene Chizik's term at ISU. Get the ball inside the 30, stall and kick. Shows how terrible the offense was.

Dont get me wrong, kickers are an important part of the game and are necessary. However, I rarely blame losses on the kickers. There are far too many other key plays throughout the course of an entire football game for you to nail a loss on a single player. Just my opinion.

Missing a 40 and 36 yarder is a complete choke job. This is the second time he personally blew a playoff game for the Chargers, I love watching a former hawk choke on a national stage.

right in between the commercial of the "mouth of the midwest" saying he's going to make a meaningful kick?

Seriously, he said that? Jeez, he just keeps crankin' them out. First the Hawks were a lock to go the Fiesta Bowl. Then the Packers were a sure thing to go to the Super Bowl. And now this? What a joke.

Pretty sure Vanderjagt isn't the most accurate kicker in NFL History (Kaeding's playoff kicking is horrible though, 8-15 I believe?)

Who do you think Kaeding surpassed to become the most accurate? Go check your history. Vanderjagt was the most accurate kicker in NFL history before he left the Colts, but could not get it done in the playoffs. He and Kaeding have very similar stories in this regard.

Mike Vanderjagt career FG stats: 230-266 86.5%
Nate Kaeding career FG stats: 150-172 87.2%

well he was a hawkeye.. what do you expect?

We offered him a scholarship at a time when the hawks didn't give scholarships to PK's; if Ferentz hadn't departed from Fry's philosophy, he'd have been a Cyclone. I doubt this thread would have the same tenor if he'd been one of us...

Disclaimer: NK as a high school junior was my eldest son's Tiny Tot Soccer Coach; he was a very nice kid then and I still root for him.

Vanderjagt and Kaeding both are strange kickers: perfectionists who are almost guaranteed winners, but once they miss, the pressure (or repetition) causes them to miss in bunches.

Weird that the world's most accurate kickers are both so crumbly come playoff time.

Kaeding's rare misses have cost them games against the Jets, the Pats and now the Jets again, all during elimination games.

I guess as long as your playoff game isn't in the balance, Kaeding is money. During the playoffs, trade for Vinateri!

While they choke when they get there, I'd take there number of Rose Bowl (would have been Orange for us) and BCS Bowl games over what we have had.

I don't care how good he is during the regular season, the Chargers have to release him, just like the Bills did with Norwood.
There is no way he should remain a Charger.
