Fair point, which gives me hope.
I just hope he tries to be shifty with the FBI. They love that.

That is a bad example. The Chalmers thing was perfectly legal. Basically just like Missouri hiring the Porter dad.
The Chalmers situation, though not against the rules at the time, did cause the NCAA to change their rules about hiring a player's parents. The parent of a player can longer be hired as the Director of Basketball Operations and must be hired as an assistant coach. At least I think that's what the change was.Well, that's kind of why I said shady instead of something harsher. It sounds like it wasn't just hiring his father either.

Thanks. That clears it up.Correct, they now have to be in a coaching position. Although I don't think it was one case that had them change the rule. Because if I remember right it wasn't changed for a few years after he was already gone. They also made changes so that you can't hire HS coaches in non coaching positions and then immediately recruit their guys.
Thanks. That clears it up.
I assume it's not the same for AAU coaches. I assume this because of the McNeil kid's thing with California. Or did he technically sign there first and the coach was hired later?

Too late. They should have done that early yesterday to catch Nike EYBL by surprise.Nike EYBL documents subpoened and they subpoened employees to turn over documents as well.
As opposed to what is happening now?
I have absolutely nothing to base this one, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Cal wind up implicated in this thing. They were pulling in high level recruits all over the place for a school with little basketball tradition. Martin has also bounced around jobs quite a bit which is never a good sign. Nothing to base this on at all, but it just kind of fits the mold.
Soon to be overheard in legislatures across the country: "There oughtta' be a law against that!"FYI...Pitino's compensation, paired with $2.25 million in pay from Adidas, added up to $7.76 million over the past year.

Yes, because Nebraska is a football school.Do we do JP in a separate thread?
He was talking about Cal-ifornia, FYI.I like to imagine Cal as the FBI's confidential informant ratting out his paisan Pitino. That would be so Calipari.
So, are the players who accepted the money going to end up getting charged with anything? Just wondering what the NBA's position is on all this right now, because they absolutely have some guys in the league or entering the league who were paid to play at the college level.
