Some of you all think just cause the Feds got involved that this is gonna somehow change college bball.

Too much money in college athletics not to be tempted by the duffle bag system.

People will still keep taking chances as long this is the system that we have in the NCAA

I agree that it probably won't change. But I guess if the NCAA was actually interested in taking back control and holding schools and coaches accountable, this is their cover. For years there has been talk of the P5 breaking free from the NCAA. If the NCAA wants to keep them in, I could see them coming down hard to reign in this stuff and using the FBI probe as their PR cover to do so. If the P5 still broke free, the NCAA could easily frame it as embracing the corruption.

Not saying it will happen, just that there is an opportunity.

True, now that the FBI has gotten the evidence that the NCAA never could, there are potentially going to be a lot of Cleveland States punished for KU's transgressions.

Only somewhat kidding. The FBI will charge a bunch of assistants, and maybe a couple head coaches, but we've already seen they're not really going after programs or universities in terms of future participation in the sport. Look at PSU individuals committing far worse crimes- the FBI doesn't care that PSU is in the Rose Bowl a few years after, that type of punishment only comes from the NCAA. In itself the FBI being involved doesn't mean the bluebloods will have a problem replacing coaches.

Also, if the NCAA is worried about themselves in this, do they try to toss a few programs under the bus to get leniency? The government and the FBI negotiate more than anyone

I swear folks don't understand that the Penn State case is completely different than this. Read through the NCAA bylaws and you see an absolute ton of stuff pertaining to pay to play currently going down in MBB. Whereas they were operating in much murkier territory when it comes to Penn State. Just not any firm bylaws you can point to that say this is where we have them.

If Nike paid the players with no involvement from the school, there is no crime involved for the school. If a coach is involved in the payment or an attempted payment then the school is in trouble.

Question - if a team plays a guy who is later deemed ineligible and the school did NOT know of the issue (taking money from booster), is the school still at risk for playing an ineligible player?

I THINK so but am not close to being sure if so...

As you all know, KCClone was very old, and like old people tend to do, she moved on to the next life.

Some people are changing their avatars in her honor, but I personally don't see the need

So what would happen if the NCAA gave all recruits and players a 6 week period to come clean about any money received? During that time, any admitted violations does not go against your eligibility. After the 6 weeks, anything that comes out would result in a permanent ineligibility. Ultimately, I would think the NCAA is more interested in cleaning out the coaches and programs that do this rather than the athletes that took what was offered.

Would that help this process come along and allow the NCAA clean house rather than a year long trickle of rumors and charges?

Then the NCAA would probably be in the cross hairs. I doubt the FBI would be pleased with the NCAA interfering with their investigation.

I've become so jaded that I have a problem believing the NCAA has any TRUE interest in upsetting any part of their billion dollar apple cart.

NCAA is toothless, and its self interests are best served by letting the sewage flow.

But don't forget the SEC will get involved too. They and company shareholders are not going to look kindly on slush money being used for bribes at Adidas and Nike. Maybe it gets a little cleaned up when the companies shut off or turn back the spigot.

Seriously....NCAA ain't got no say in this. This is a Federal investigation.
