Thanks, Judoka. Was listening to the Flo radio Live earlier and they thought it was a possibility. Since Kyven got screwed on seeding last year, I thought there would be a good chance it happens this year, too!

Mike really needs the 2 or 3 seed. 4 or 5= bad bad news.

While I'm still mad about the seed they gave Kyven last year, if you look at the criteria, you can see how it happened. I think the criteria vastly underweights the coaches ranking. And the head-to-head portion needs tweaking to not be applied to more than two wrestlers at once - it should just be a tiebreaker. Or at the very least, you shouldn't be dinged for losing multiple times to the same guy.

In fact, I could even see a scenario where Moreno falls to the #6 seed (Walsh has like 4 wins over Harger this season and that might carry him despite his losses to the top 5 other than his pin over Moreno). That would be a much, much better situation than being the 4 or 5 seed.

SHP's projections-

133-Hall
141-Dante
149-Gabe
165-Mike
174-Weatherman
184-Weatherspoon
197-Gadson

About who you would've thought would get in.

He's got Lizak and Parker in over Larson at 125. I agree on Lizak, since he's got the win over Rodriguez (Air Force). But I'm not totally sold on Parker. Parker doesn't have any quality wins either. I think it'll depend on how they figure the 10% for "qualifying event placement", since that's a pretty nebulous factor. Larson isn't a lock over Parker, but I think they have pretty similar resumes.

Staudenmayer tore his pcl in his EIWA quarterfinal and is done for the season. Harner didn't compete at EIWAs so he's out too.

This was post on The Open Mat. Not sure if Luke is close to a spot or not. Not sure who Harner is

I don't think Luke is going to be eligible for an at large - he's in the RPI but not in the coaches panel and I don't see them putting him in the one they submitted yesterday. But I suppose it is possible.

I assume "Harner" is Brett Harner, 184 pounder for Princeton.

Can someone provide an update on Gabe and his injury? What can we expect at Nationals?

More at 157....

I count 9 guys ranked in the last coaches panel that didn't get spots. There are 6 at larges available

Code:
+--------+------+------------+--------------+------------------+------------+
| Weight | Rank | First Name | Last Name | Team | Conference |
+--------+------+------------+--------------+------------------+------------+
| 157 | 13 | Dylan | Alton | Penn State | Big Ten |
| 157 | 15 | Mike | Kelly | Iowa | Big Ten |
| 157 | 16 | Anthony | Collica | Oklahoma State | Big 12 |
| 157 | 18 | Justin | Staudenmayer | Brown | EIWA |
| 157 | 20 | Justin | DeAngelis | Oklahoma | Big 12 |
| 157 | 25 | Jarrett | Jensen | Northern Iowa | MAC |
| 157 | 27 | Immanuel | Kerr-Brown | Duke | ACC |
| 157 | 31 | Brandon | Zeerip | Eastern Michigan | MAC |
| 157 | 33 | Cody | LeCount | Central Michigan | MAC |
+--------+------+------------+--------------+------------------+------------+

Dylan Alton didn't compete, so he's out (don't know if Frey will be competitive for a spot or not), and apparently Staudemeyer is injured. But that's still 7 guys who were ranked looking for 6 spots. If Kerr-Brown, Zeerip, and LeCount all fall out of the rankings and Goettl shows up, then I suppose he might have a slim chance. But I'm not counting on it. Too many bad losses at the end of the season. But he finished his career with a pin in Hilton, and I'm glad he got that. The guy started for us for four years and deserved to go out with a win.

Amen to this Judoka. Thanks to Luke Goettl for putting in 5 years with Cyclone Wrestling.

Today is when we find out brackets and seeding. At larges will be announced every half hour starting at noon. They're starting at 125 so we'll find out about Larson right away. Then at 5PM they'll release the brackets/seeds. Since I'm pretty sure they're going to give Moreno the Gadson treatment I hope they go all in on it and drop him to a 6 seed.

Too bad. He had some opportunities late to strengthen his claim, but couldn't pull out any of those wins.

Am more concerned about the brothers Moreno: hoping for a healed shoulder for one and a non punitive seed for the other.

125 is out. No Larson.

No Jensen of UNI at 157? They were hoping he might get in. He was wrestling pretty good late in the season
