Those talking about Campbell and money...the guy is 42 and already netted $20M which is more than enough for generational wealth. Stay and win at Iowa State where he only answers to Pollard and none of the Boosters, he can double that $20M in a few years, especially with a new Big 12 TV deal that would allow for Campbell to get an additional $1M-2M a year bumping his pay over $5M a year. What vacation home can't he buy right now? What business investments can't he make right now? Money isn't what he's chasing, he's got it. It's legacy and being a program icon. He can do that Iowa State while making tens of millions over his coaching career for the next decade (maybe decade plus).

Since hyperventilating & speculation is the theme: I am hearing (seriously) that big money donors are pressuring Barta to clean house. Would CMC be on Iowa’s list?

Have you seen Ferentz' buy-out? Iowa isn't cleaning house anytime soon!!

I've said this every time his name is tied to an opening. Campbell is a different dude and people act like he's making like 150 k a year to coach at Iowa State. Outsiders don't understand the relationship Matt and JP have.

He'll never become a Russian oligarch making only a little over 5 million a year.

One reporter mentions Campbell as a potential candidate. A blogger sees that and writes and article putting Campbell at the top of Nebraska's list. Another reporter sees that blog as writes an article headlined "Campbell to Nebraska Intensifies". Another reporter sees that and tweets "Cambpell rumored to be willing to meet with Nebraska" Then Joe Schmo message board poster starts a thread citing "a lot of smoke regarding Campbell to Nebraska" and the rumors continue from there.

It's a bad game of telephone where bloggers/reporters take some liberties with "facts vs opinion" and suddenly there's "smoke" because enough people are talking about it despite nothing actually going on.

And why the line by the character Simone in Ferris Bueller's Day Off is such a popular meme/gif.

Why did Nebraska hire a used car salesman as their athletic director? He is basically saying he wants Matt Campbell when he described what kind of coach he wants.

Does CMC want to work for a used car salesman who quit ESPN so he wouldnt have to play second fiddle to the gameday crew?

Nobody is saying this. Like nobody. Just because someone says "if he cares about money" doesn't mean they actually think he does. With that said Campbell is the only one who can truly answer that question or prove priorities if and when Nebby offers a substantial increase in pay.

I think most, based on the fact he took this job as well as how many opps he's declined since being here, don't think money is at the top of his priority list. That doesn't mean it can't be a potential factor or one which can be immediately dismissed.

I think the two most important aspects for Campbell are career aspirations/dreams and the right fit with culture/working relationship in the AD department. I don't think Nebraska comes close to checking either box but we shall see.

Reading between the lines, Trev wants CMC, the boosters dont, so Trev will have to show his work to the boosters of why they should get CMC. Also Trev knows that he cant touch CMC till after the season so he said 'hopefully buy early signing'. I would ask CMC, do you want to work for a used care salesman?

Certainly ONE Iowa State Football coach is interested in the Nebraska job. Now it wouldn't be his dream job, but he would be so proud to lead that team. And as everyone says, recruiting to Nebraska would be easier than recruiting to Ames. Baby steps Nebby. You've fallen a long way and you don't even know it.

With just a couple of small changes, he'll probably be making this exact same speech in a couple of months about the basketball coach.

Scott Frost’s only winning season as a coach has been the UCF “National Championship” season. Lightning in a bottle
