A smaller, full stadium is always better than a larger empty one.

Not to be a **** either, but your attendance is definitely helped by a large amount of fans from other schools. Games like Texas, TCU, OU must have had at least 10K fans from those schools.

Still better than BC, Wake, etc, but they don't have nearby fanbases who care helping them out.

There will plenty of beer in Ames this fall for the ISU/BU game.

Agree

That is about the max. Even then it only adds 2-3k max onto a season average.

and the amount that those fanbases help our averages is significantly less than the lead we have on these other schools.

Even assuming Baylor's other 4 home games had no visiting fans the average would be over 4k (30k/7) for the season... Assuming 3k for the other 4 home games gets a 6k average (30k+(4*3k)/7) for the season. All hypothetical but those three fanbases help raise the average attendance more than 2-3k

My distaste of Baylor is well documented, and I'm not trying to be a hater for hatred's sake, but after watching that video, I don't like this new stadium as much as I did.

The interior looks great, but the exterior comes off way too slick/modern. This is the same firm that designed Minnesota's TCF Bank Stadium, and they went with a classic brick exterior on that stadium, while keeping it almost identical to Baylor's on the inside. It looks much better than Baylor's proposed exterior, which just seems to "busy". Minnesota pulled off a modern stadium with a classic feel. Baylor seems to be shooting for mini-Jerry World.

Then again, this is just a rendering and it could look quite a bit different in real life. After all, this rendering makes the Brazos look like a clean, glassy, high capacity waterway when in reality it looks (and is about the same size) as the Skunk when its full.

love TCF bank. like you said, ours is modeled similarly.

Problem is a 'classic' feeling football stadium is never going to have a roof. (Lucas oil stadium is the only thing I can think of that comes close, and that just looks like a barn.) We seem to be trying to build a modern looking stadium that still tries to hold onto the red-brick to mirror the rest of campus. I can't really think of anything out there like it, and couldn't find any with a quick google search.

I hated the white pillars at first, but the more I looked, I think they are needed to balance things out. A white canopy over a brick stadium would just look out of place (maybe why it hasn't been done much). Whereas a modern stadium without brick like Autzen wouldn't fit with campus. I'm sure there will be some small tweaks moving forward, but I'm not sure what I'd change about it now.

A group of teams that brings more than ants would get 5k on average throughout the season from my experience. That 2-3k is adjusting back to that.

You shouldn't be. Let's run the numbers.

With a dump of a stadium 5 miles from campus which only has the redeeming quality of good sight lines we average 8,000 of our 12,000 undergrads showing up.

Our alumni base in Central Texas's DMA that includes Waco- 25,000 but it includes surrounding counties and such. Let's say we get half that at 12,500.

We now have 20,500. The rest either is unaffiliated Waco fans who haven't had a reason to be excited before 2010 or our large DFW or Houston alumni bases. We can pack out 40k usually but it tapers of sharply there. 45k is right.

Our 12k undergrad enrollment gets us in the low 40s. Your 30k enrollment gets you in the low 50s. I imagine a substantial portion of that 10k difference is enrollment.

Ha, no way in hell 8,000 BU students show up for fball games.

Directly from our AD on local ESPN radio affiliate: 7,000 to 8,000 students.

BU has a very sports minded student body and has one of the highest intramural participation rates around. Problem is that so many losing seasons damaged the fanbase and many never got into it in the late 90s and early 2000s.

PS- I hope you don't feel like I am picking at ISU's attendance. You guys draw 50k in a smaller state where you have another rival with 30k enrollment in a major conference. I am simply trying to defend my school.

I don't feel like you're digging ISU at all. Just wanted to make the point that the disadvantage of the smaller school are made up for in other areas. Such as being in the state for college football and the proximity of opponents.

Not going to lie, I'm a little shocked by the Texas attendance figure. I had expected higher. I'd say they usually bring about 4-6K minimum when they come to Ames. I figured they would be in larger force when they were close to home.

Do you know if the stadium is being designed to be expanded upon in the future if needed? I wonder because if Baylor stays as solid as they have been the last few years I just have a very very hard time believing 45K is large enough. I think it's designed to suit the crowds now, but could very well be under built in 6-10 years. Please PLEASE don't take this as a jab, are Baylor fans expecting to maintain the level that the team is at or do they think a drop off after RG3? Because a top 25 program in Texas can more than fill a 45K stadium every week. And you don't have to be Aggy or the horns to do it. (I'm thinking of SMU, Rice when they were in their prime). I could be wrong on that, but given the design of the stadium I'd make sure I could bowl it all the way in. It'd be a mess to have a new stadium that was too small without means to expand it.

Expandable to 55k but it would be a while before that is really needed.

We expect a 7 win normal season, 10+ every few years with some in-between seasons mixed in. Not making a bowl would be a disappointment.

SMU and Rice rarely drew well in the SWC days. Even in SMU's pony express days they average 34k vs anyone in the SWC not named UT or A&M who have 70k alumni in DFW each. That 34k includes BU, Tech, Arkansas, Houston, TCU, and Rice. Houston, Rice, and TCU were worse off and SMU post death penalty dropped off 10k.

Unrelated but would guys please relax a little and start allowing beer sales at the Big XII Bball Tourney? From what I'm told only Baylor has a problem with beer sales at the Sprint Center. Thanks.

Then you are being told wrong, Baylor isn't holding up beer sales at any Big 12 event. Hell when we play Tech at Cowboys Stadium they have beer sales throughout and liquor sales in the club areas. Also in the past two bowl games Baylor has been to there has been beer and liquor sales all over the place.

If Baylor had as big a problem with alcohol sales as people would like to believe they would make a big deal out of all the people getting hammered at their tailgates on Saturdays, and they would also make a stink about being in a conference with member schools that serve i.e. Missouri and Colorado when they were in the Big 12 and now West Virginia.

I think it's just easy to blame alcohol policies on the Baptists.

You mean all these people getting hammered? Just messing with you.

That's what a Sprint Center worker told me. Very well could have been making up a convenient excuse.
