Especially when, correct me if I'm wrong, but he is teammates to a guy that we are actively recruiting. That screams to me that if this guy is truly walking on that he must be taking zero scholarship money, as I don't think I would risk it given the NCAA and their 'fair' rulings.

True, but it we don't fill 13 scholarships then he can get all the academic scholarships he wants. lol

This is off-topic but I got a quick question that I didn't feel was worthy of starting a new thread over. Is Austin Mcbeth going to stay on the basketball team? I saw him at the spring game in the crowd and got to wondering. Is he just focused primarily on basketball or whats the deal with him now?

And I'm pretty sure that he was on the float in the VEISHEA parade with the basketball players.

Maybe he received academic scholarship??? Iowa State has many good things to offer.

there is a pretty good correlation between athletes that are gifted athletically and in music, grades and their talent on the athletic field.see our transfer from minnesota that will be playing for hoiberg next year. i watched some of the u of texas spring football game on tv and they have a couple of black linebackers that looked pretty good in the texas spring football game.
after the game espn followed the two black linebackers around campus and both of them sat down at a baby grand piano and hammered out out some beautiful classic music and both of them were very good... mack brown hired the offensive coordinator from boise state and he has a defensive coordinator named manny diaz-i have never seen such an intense defensive coordinator.texas will run many sets with the qb under center and their defense will be a basic 4 defensive linemen,2 linebackers and 5 dbs next fall....diaz was out on the field correcting mistakes on the defensive side of the ball in the spring game. i have never seen that kind of defensive coach-he will be much better than the toad that left for florida.

I've seen fractals that are easier to follow than your post, woodie.

Wasn't Paul Shirley on an academic scholarship for part of the time he was here?

If I recall correctly, Shirley had a full-ride scholarship in mechanical engineering and walked on to the BB team. After his first year, it became evident that he was a serious player, the NCAA made his scholarship count against roster limit.

How does a coach convince someone to walk-on and pay out-of-state tuition? Or is there something worked out somehow to at least pay in-state tuition as a walk-on?

Otherwise, I just don't see why somebody would do it. I'm glad to have these guys, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't make sense to me to pay out-of-state tuition for the slim chance of occasional seconds/minutes of game time.

California tuition is probably not much different than out of state tuition for ISU. Not to mention, it is really difficult to get into UC schools.

Fees, Tuition, and Estimated Student Budget - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions

OK, that's an excellent point. Looks like the tuition there is $11,618 for a Cal resident, as opposed to $9140 at ISU.

That changes some things in my objection. If I were a parent, I guess I'd have to look at ISU as a much cheaper option.
