She says they worked with Iowa and ISU the whole way - I have a hard time believing that no one ever brought up the fact that this is a football trophy that has nothing to do with football.

If you can't tell, it's a full size football that transforms into an ear of corn.

From the article: "And lest you think that kind of brilliance can't make its way to the confluence of corn and football, as one Iowa writer's wife pointed out, why not have the football peeled open at the top with a corn cob under it?"

I think we have an idea that is a tad more popular. Maybe not very original, but who cares about that?

Without going through 18 pages, is there anyone who has said they like it? The poll on WHO and on Hawkeye Nation are landslides. Its not even funny how many people hate this thing.

ISU and Iowa reps probably just sweet talked the entire time. The only thing they care about is the check! Keep that check coming and the trophy can be as ridiculous as some idiot can dream up.

Hawkeye Nation poll has 181 voting so far and only 3 like the trophy. Hmmmm. The Corn Growers office staff is 4 so someone didn't vote.

Did I read right that there is going to be a separate trophy for FB, MBB and WBB? Why not have three trophys with 3 different pieces of farm equipment? They would look good all next to each other in the trophy case.
Seeder. harverster, tractor?

Or they could highlight the universities and their football programs, like the Trice\Kinnick trophy idea earlier. Or have it at least somewhat football related (the corn\football trophy drawing)

Why des every image of the Iowa Farmer have to look like its from 1940..

Definitely agree. The state already has an image problem where people think we are stuck 50 years in the past. We constantly like to reinforce that negative stereotype. This is a huge example of that.

Hell, along those lines, what portion of iowans are even farmers anymore? Is there nothing else we can highlight about our state? Seems like every single thing we do has to highlight one single sector in this state.

It pains me to say this as a caucasian, but this is definitely the work of misguided crackers.

Men's basketball could have Barry Stevens on it and Chris Street or other possible combinations... It could have been somethine freaking awesome but instead we get.... Junk.

No kidding. I thought the sponsor was supposed to promote the Cy-Hawk rivalry (which happens to be a pretty good instate rivalry game) not make it look nationally like it is the Brokeback Mountain rivalry.

Perhaps we are thinking about this the wrong way, of course Iowa Corn wanted to make the worst ******* trophy of all time... Look at the publicity they are getting from this dumb-*** trophy!!

Seriously though, I hope we get to the game and they pull out a new trophy that is actually something that either team would want to win and that can go to the winner!
