It could certainly be better, but you are never going to make everyone happy. If it were a giant cob of corn, people would still hate it....you can take that to the bank.
What the trophy looks like really doesn't matter in the scope of things. Hell...we play for a phone with Missouri. When ISU wins and runs to claim the trophy, I doubt they will be less enthusiastic because of the sculpture.

Yes, and that phone has historical significance. It has to do with things that have happened during the football games in this series.

Wow. We should start a pledge to pay off a staff member to "accidentally" drop it.

Jon Miller's comments says it all. He has never been more articulate or correct.

"This is a #&%^##% joke, right? That guy's face says it all..he's laughing..he is probably a Nebraska fan and they just pulled the sheet back and saw what Iowa and Iowa State were going to be playing for. What in the freaking world? I dont care what the brass will say this signifies...its a damned football game..and the trophy goes to the winner. This looks like it should go to the winner of the Decorah Lutheran Potluck bakeoff winner"

I assume that this is not a trophy but a punishment. The loser has to display it in their trophy case? I am so confused! Why are there children on a football trophy?

There at least is a story and meaning behind the Telephone trophy. This is simply lame marketing at its finest.

I took five minutes to come up with an idea, draw this up in Paint, and save it to Photobucket. And I think it looks better than that. Hell, print this crude drawing out and tape it over the concrete, (I'm sure it's not concrete, but it sure looks like it), sculpture and it instantly looks better. :jimlad:

If you can't tell, it's a full size football that transforms into an ear of corn.

Can't rep you again. I'll have to owe you.

So I'm confused. I thought the Hy-Vee (Now Iowa Corn) Cy-Hawk series was the total sports competition? So shouldn't they be replacing this trophy:

and keeping their dirty, incompetent, mits off of the football trophy?

That's what I thought as well, but the article said this monstrosity will go to the winner of the football game.

So farming has no historical significance to the state of Iowa and our respective universities?

Listen...I can understand why people don't like it, but it represents a good portion of our fanbase for both schools.

Pretty much spot on. It's one thing to have a lame trophy that has some history behind it. It's a whole different thing to introduce a new trophy that's lame right out of the gate.

Yes, but can't you represent the fanbase in a way that isn't lame? Several better suggestions were made since they announced they were replacing the old trophy.

The grass isn't always greener... I stayed out of the thread where people were clamoring for a new trophy. I was fine with the old one. It wasn't exactly a looker, but it had some history behind it and was infinitely better than this embarrassment.

Of course, that doesn't let the Iowa Corn people off the hook for this piece of garbage. It's like the joke that is our football pregame and entrance: Clearly being headed up by people who don't "get" the game of football.

I guess this awful looking trophy was better then their other idea. The runnerup was this corn guy on top of a wooden base. When you push the button it dances around and sings a song about corn. Actually... it probably should have been the winner.

A good portion of our fanbase works in cubicles all day, staring at a computer. Why don't we put that on the trophy?

I can't quite laughing. This can't be serious. There is no way anyone looked at this and said "I like it, lets go with it." It's just so hilariously terrible.
