I'm pretty excited about our young LB corp! Knott, Klein, Mattison, George, and Hubert could be very good players.

Nice, looks like 4* DB Anthony Young committed today! Is he a safety or CB?
Edit: he is a corner.

Rough draft of next year's defense:

Safeties: D. Sims M. O'Connell

CB's: T. Benton/A. Young and S. Johnson

LB's: inside: P. Neal
outsides: F. Mattison/J. George and A. Klein/J. Knott

DL: R. Parker S. Rumpolhamer B. Johnson R. Nelson

AJ Klein is very likely the MLB next year.

I'd sure like to find another Juco d-lineman or two to push for playing time. ISU finished 112th in the nation in sacks last season. We could use more than just one new player in the mix.

I think we need to add another juco DE (togiai), then either bush or douglas as a HS DE, and then another DT juco or HS. That, to me, would be a nice attempt to shore up our d line problems

Wrong. P. Neal is a defensive end and I assume you mean Leonard Johnson not Sedrick Johnson.

Safeties will be Sims and Durrell Givens with O'Connell backing both up. Wouldn't be surprised to see Adrian Bennett get playing time also.

Linebackers will be Klein, Lattimer, Knott. Mattison will redshirt for sure (he only weighs 190) and George will probably redshirt also. Hubert also will be in the mix. He is probably the best linebacker in the class. He looks ready to play immediately.

The NCAA limits team to 25 scholarships per year. If players can start in the spring, they can be counted against last year's class. That's why we take more than 25.

Yes! I meant LEONARD Johnson. Don't know how I messed up on my favorite Clone!

Yes! I thought Neal was DE also, but he is listed as a LB on the roster. Patrick Neal - Iowa State University Athletics Official Web Site - www.CYCLONES.com - The home of Iowa State Cyclone Sports

That's why this is a ROUGH DRAFT! Just wanted people's thoughts. Thanks!

You can only count back (limit of 3) if you didn't use all of your slots the previous year. We had 24 of 25 enroll last year so we have one slot to use for Dec grads this year. Any additional have to go against the 25 allotment for the February signing class for next year. Thus if we sign more than 26, someone either has to be projected as a grayshirt or not likely to qualify.

I Know we plan on signing the stud running back from Urbandale. Iowa has said he is the best athlete in the state. Except he isnt gonna make grades and may be forced to go juco. That may be the reason why we plan on getting 26.

I believe we could actually have 3 recruits count on last years class since we had 4 kids not make it this fall. Martin, Bellamy, Mims and Princeton Jackson
