For those wondering about his name, it is Georgios. Giorgos (or Yorgos) would be like a nickname (like Mike and Mikey for someone named Michael). I would know, my name is Georgios as well!

So if his nickname is pronounced Yorgos, how is your full name pronounced? I knew an old Greek guy named this but every still called him George (I am guessing incorrectly) similar to my mechanic Jorge who most call George too.

I was very excited to hear this news. As much as I love our "small" line up, excited to see how Fred uses some size.

I also want to be fair to this young man and don't expect him to come in and be all Big 12.

Ok, enough on the Justin Hamilton derail.

What would you rather have:

1 year of Ryan Anderson
or
4 years of Giorgos Tsalmpouris

I don't expect this kid to contribute until his RS So. year. Endoze will eat this kid up in practice. Heck, I bet SDW could post this kid up and score.

This kid will be a practice player. Think Ellerman on scholarship. Maybe a modern day Skoglund.

Why spend a scholarship on a kid from the other side of the world then? I'm sure Fred saw something you're missing.

Wow, you were able to predict his entire career path from 7 minutes of video and ~10 tweets? Consider me impressed.
(not sure if you meant to add a :jimlad: at the end.)

Why not take a chance on the kid? If it doesn't pan out, we have a solid lineup next year without him contributing. What have we lost?

Imagine if he can contribute. That makes us a very versatile team with that length coming off the bench. Perhaps he can defend the rim a little - or at least make the other team alter their shots. Combine that with what we are hearing about McKay and our interior D might be nasty.

Might be a risk but there is definitely some reward to be had.

I agree. The reward outweighs the risk here. If we didn't have any other options I'd say you probably don't take him. But if he doesn't pan out, its not like we're doomed.

Have you ever heard the expression that it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool then to speak and remove all doubt?

Well, funny you mention that. All three are the same name (Georgios is George in English and Jorge in Spanish). The easiest way to pronounce it is just like George and then ee-os (George-ee-os). Hope that helps!

Are you serious? You really think Hoiberg would push this hard for a scout team player? It's reported that ISU put a full court press on this dude the pass week when CFH & MA found out about him from their NBA scouting buddies.

Anyone else get the impression that CFH and crew really took advantage of that tournament in Italy to get involved with the talent over in Europe? The guys we now know the Clones have had interest in are Giorgos and SM and both would have been freshman (that Euro scouts/NBA already knew about but probably not other NCAA programs) when the Clones were in Europe.

Simply stating that the kid won't contribute until he puts on muscle is making a huge assumption. Plenty of tall skinny players have succeeded in the college and NBA ranks. I think that if you watch a video of any Euro top prospect against other Euro competition no one gets a great feeling of the capabilities. But you insert those guys into NCAA/NBA surrounded by other players with talent those Euro guys do a pretty good job because they are so solid from an IQ standpoint and very multi-faceted.

Giorgos appears to have a need to be more explosive under the rim. Rarely does he appear to grab a rebound above the rim or finish in traffic above the rim. Outside of that I see a 7'-1" BARELY 17 YEAR OLD who has multiple moves under the rim, can go to either hand, passes, runs the floor faster than everyone except the PG who blocks shots and can shoot from outside.

This kid is another floor spacer in the NBA system that is Fred Hoiberg's world. Hi Cliff Alexander, please move yourself out to the perimeter to guard Giorgos from the 3 so that McKay/Hogue/Niang can post up low. Sometimes guys can be HUGE contributors without putting a stat in the book.

Got me on the last name. The only thing I can tell you for sure, it's that the T is silent (my name also starts with a "Ts"). Based on other Greek names' pronunciation, I would say it probably sounds like "Salmpoorees" or "Salmpuris".

No. His time with the Timberwolves office is paying off.
