Ok, New Music time again.
I have gotten really lucky and the last 3 albums I've bought have been great. There isn't a song that I don't like on any of the three albums, which is rare. To me, if I can listen to the full album and not skip any songs, that is the sign of a great album.
All three are in the Alternative/Rock genre.
Two Door Cinema Club - "Tourist History"
Very Solid offering by the Nothern Ireland band. Very sharp and good depth to their sound. Lots of variety in their instrumentation as well.
Highlights of the album include "Something Good Can Work" and "I Can Talk"
Foster the People - "Torches"
The band made a name for themselves by rocking South by Southwest. Their full album finally dropped in May. Their style infuses a lot of keyboards and electronic influence with their indie pop style and lead singer Mark Foster's falsetto lyrics.
They were selling out shows for almost a year before that based on their EP, and hype from their great live shows.
I just went and saw them at a small venue in Minneapolis this last weekend and they exceeded my expectations. They have a lot of energy and are very good live. Like I said about what make a great album, to me a great band is one that sounds just as good or better live than they do in the studio. Foster the People was great live. I actually liked some of their song better live because they expanded on them and extended the solo sections. They also played an unreleased bonus track that I wish was on the CD. They deffinitely lived up to their hype.
Highlights of the album include their lead single which is getting a lot of radio play "Pumped Up Kicks". I actually like "Helena Beat" and "Houdini" better and look forward to them being released as singles.
AWOLNATION - "Megalithic Symphony"
This one I just picked up this weekend and listened to all the way to Minneapolis. The lead single, "Sail" is awesome and has recently gotten some air play on 105.1. the rest of the album is also quite good. One of the lines from "Sail" is "Blame it on my ADD." Well this album seems to be a testiment to ADD. Each song seems to be a bit different from the last and keeps you very interested.
Highlights include "Sail", "Burn It Down", and "Guilty Filthy Soul".
I highly recomend all three albums to any of you who enjoy alternative rock music.
