Way up there
I can't belive all the Gaga love...what a bunch of pansies....:jimlad:. Honestly, I think she's trapped because as talented as she is, no one wants her to be that kind of musician. She used the shock value of her manufactured persona to make her a household name. It happens all the time (see Eminem), it will be interesting to see if she is able to shake that once her "character" gets overdone and can lean on her talent.

I think Death Cab's album has a lot more memorable songs. I've found myself listening to that one a lot more than MMJ.

IMO, Plans was Death Cab's best, Narrow Stairs was forgettable, but this one is a real solid effort. There has been so much good music that has come out in the past few weeks and in the next weeks.

Narrow Stairs was pretty uneven, but "Cath" is a great song. Probably my favorite Death Cab song along with "Sound of Settling". But I'm hardly an afficianado of that band.

Not sure if there are any Chiddy Bang fans on here, but they recently came out with a new mix tape, Peanut Butter & Swelly. Pretty good stuff and it's a free download if you're into that kind of music. Any fans of Lupe or Kid Cudi that haven't heard him, I would suggest you give it a try.

Ok, New Music time again.

I have gotten really lucky and the last 3 albums I've bought have been great. There isn't a song that I don't like on any of the three albums, which is rare. To me, if I can listen to the full album and not skip any songs, that is the sign of a great album.

All three are in the Alternative/Rock genre.

Two Door Cinema Club - "Tourist History"
Very Solid offering by the Nothern Ireland band. Very sharp and good depth to their sound. Lots of variety in their instrumentation as well.
Highlights of the album include "Something Good Can Work" and "I Can Talk"

Foster the People - "Torches"
The band made a name for themselves by rocking South by Southwest. Their full album finally dropped in May. Their style infuses a lot of keyboards and electronic influence with their indie pop style and lead singer Mark Foster's falsetto lyrics.
They were selling out shows for almost a year before that based on their EP, and hype from their great live shows.
I just went and saw them at a small venue in Minneapolis this last weekend and they exceeded my expectations. They have a lot of energy and are very good live. Like I said about what make a great album, to me a great band is one that sounds just as good or better live than they do in the studio. Foster the People was great live. I actually liked some of their song better live because they expanded on them and extended the solo sections. They also played an unreleased bonus track that I wish was on the CD. They deffinitely lived up to their hype.
Highlights of the album include their lead single which is getting a lot of radio play "Pumped Up Kicks". I actually like "Helena Beat" and "Houdini" better and look forward to them being released as singles.

AWOLNATION - "Megalithic Symphony"
This one I just picked up this weekend and listened to all the way to Minneapolis. The lead single, "Sail" is awesome and has recently gotten some air play on 105.1. the rest of the album is also quite good. One of the lines from "Sail" is "Blame it on my ADD." Well this album seems to be a testiment to ADD. Each song seems to be a bit different from the last and keeps you very interested.
Highlights include "Sail", "Burn It Down", and "Guilty Filthy Soul".

I highly recomend all three albums to any of you who enjoy alternative rock music.

KAMG YOYO

4 new albums I've been listening to a lot:
"Here We Rest" Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit
"KMAG YOYO" Hayes Carll
"Go-Go Boots" Drive-By Truckers
"The King is Dead" The Decemberists (this is not typical pretentious hipster Decemberists. It has a good Petty/Stones vibe)

KMAG YOYO is my favorite cd of the year, so far. Hayes puts on a great show too!!!

Perfect! I was just giving you a hard time. 100% agree with your review. All are great choices.

I wish AWOLNATION was coming closer than Milwaukee this summer. I am hoping for some new dates a few hours closer at least.

I am seriously considering Lollapalooza this year simply to catch Foster The People, in addition to the number of other great acts.

That's why the wife and I headed up to Minneapolis last weekend. It was deffinitely worth it. Foster The People is great live.

I'm getting old. Anybody see last week's Southpark episode? Everthing new is starting to sound like **** with a generic beatbox to me. I've reviewed a lot of the artists mentioned in this thread on youtube and just don't get it. Do I need to smoke a bowl and pop a bottle of ritalin before I listen to this stuff? Can anyone name a RECENT artist that plays a mean guitar? I miss mosh pits...

Brian Aubert from Silversun Pickups plays a mean quitar.
Silversun Pickups is one of the more guitar heavy alternative bands I have heard recently and they only have Brian playing. He's also the lead singer.
Not sure if they are your style though.

Sorry CYCLNST8, I think the days of heavy metal are over for you! :twitcy:

I know- I'm a relic. Not really a headbanger, just miss the days of rockin' out with real instruments. Thank god RHCP is coming out with another album...

I was hoping to find some props for CHROMEO in this thread. I really dig their stuff.

You're a little young to be a dinosaur! The new Foo Fighters is pretty dang good. Check that one out. I too am anxiously awaiting 8/30/2011 for the new RHCP. I am also awaiting the release of their US tour dates. I really want to see them in concert this time around. They wont be around forever.
